April Update!
Steve’s oncologist was all smiles at his most recent visit last week. His nutritional status and hemoglobin levels are improving and he’s regained some weight. Further, he has had no pain from the colon tumor for the past few weeks which is a clear indication that the primary tumor is responding to the chemotherapy and is shrinking. A CT scan scheduled for the latter part of May will provide information on the status of the metastatic tumors in his liver (and possibly lung, this was not definitive on the earlier scan in Feb). The cessation of abdominal pain has allowed him to resume his regular diet (a super healthy and scrumptious one) which has contributed not only to his improved health status but to his day to day quality of life. Overall, Steve is feeling much better than he had been two months ago.
He has now undergone five cycles of chemotherapy and is determined not to let the side effects (primarily fatigue and nausea) slow him down—too much. We are very proud of the way that he has stayed actively engaged in so many facets of his life, maintaining a busy schedule both at work and at home and taking time to play the piano almost daily. Some friends who visited recently for the first time since his diagnosis said that they were relieved to see how good he looks and how good his spirits are.
We continue to be moved by the many expressions of admiration and love for Steve and we are very grateful for your ongoing concern and support.

Such great news, Steve, and so glad you chose to fight this battle and are seeing such amazing wins. All that work with the ILOs not only did good in its own right but prepared you for this equally big fight closer to home. And once again, you manage to defy the odds big time, all the while being there for family, students and friends, doing your great work, and playing your music. I didn't use to think anyone was invincible, but you're beginning to change my mind. All good thoughts as you keep on climbing to the top of that mountain. So happy for you, the rest of us, and the world. Merry
