January 2016 update
Just a brief entry because there’s little to report since the November update. Steve’s labs continue to look good for the most part, although he did get a transfusion of iron last month to help build up his iron stores, iron depletion being a casualty of both the cancer and the chemotherapy and a contributor to fatigue. He’s had some bouts of pain that have caused some concern (regrowth of the primary tumor since going on the “maintenance” chemo regimen?), but for now the treatment plan remains as is, which is maintenance therapy until his next scheduled CT scan in February. Meanwhile, he is excited about teaching his spring course on environmental justice, is energized by his participation in some litigation involving hog CAFOs, and is looking forward to his upcoming music gigs (one coming up soon at C Grace in Raleigh on Jan 5).
Best wishes to you all for a healthy, happy, peaceful 2016.

Best wishes for 2016 to Steve, Betsy and family. Good to hear that you are able to stay active in SPH and with your music.
STEVE: Every time I see one of these reports I am amazed anew at your tenacity. I give thanks for your hanging in there and pushing ahead, despite impediments. So, good wishes for this new year. I will send you an email with something I recently posted on my web. I think you'll like it. Warm regards, LeRoy
Dear Wing Family, What a year it has been. I love how through all this your family has been able to grow even stronger than before... How is that even possible!? I love you all very very much and wish you a happy and healthier 2016. Keep up the good work of fighting cancer and fighting cafo's :)
Continued best wishes and strength for the new year! The struggle is not just against the cancer but for all of us how to live each day to our potential. Keeping you in my thoughts...
Thank you for this update. It is wonderful to read of ongoing fulfillment through family, work and music! May 2016 be good to us all! And, having Steve active brings good to the world! All my best wishes! Colin Soskolne
I am so happy to read your report.... You all are in my prayers and good wishes for the up coming year... Hugs.. Myra Dotson
Jerry and I just attended a Jubilee celebration at the Pittsboro Church of God that was inspiring for us and might be for you as well. Stella Adams spoke with intelligent ideas for this primary election in March as she is benefiting from medical struggles of her own. You are starting this year beautifully with your course, music, and the litigation relating to hog factory farming. We wish you well in all these activities and know that many are working for forward action all around. With hugs and wishes for happy days ahead from Jerry and Cathy Markatos
Dear Steve, Marion, Ann and Betsy, thanks for the update. In the weird world of cancer, this is good news. And what means so much to all of us is that Steve continues to fight for what is right. He's got a great family support team, and that matters a lot. Wishing you the best possible outcomes in 2016. Barbara Rimer
Lots of love and hope for this new year, wonderful Wings! Love, Hailey and Zach
Dear Wings, Thanks for writing even when there is little to report, because (although there is some truth in the saying no news is good news, and, truth be told, each time I see a post I actually hold my breath for bad news -- oh, you of little faith) every report is a welcome connection to you all. I continue to be among those who are amazed and inspired by you as a life force, Steve, in all you do, most certainly in fighting cancer! And I continue to be grateful for being included in the journey -- the destination of which is not the goal. Speaking of journey, I am going to NOLA again this year after Mardi Gras, then further into the bayou for a couple of days. I'll certainly be wishing y'all were there! Love, Jo
