June 17, 2016 Update 2 - special visitors!

On a more positive note, Big Slick KC visited our room at the clinic today! For those not familiar, please visit www.bigslickkc.org.

Big Slick KC is a fundraiser established by Rob Riggle, Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis (KC natives as we know) where they, along with other celebrities, have various fundraising activities to raise money for Children's Mercy in KC, with a focus on the Children's Mercy Cancer Center. They come for a couple days every June to visit the hospital, have a softball game at Kauffman and various other activities.

Giving back the way they are is fantastic. They've raised over $3 million and it's so great to see them visiting the hospital and the kids. Had we still been in the hospital they would have visited our room on the HEMOC floor, but since we were at the HEMOC clinic today we happened to be there at the right time and got some visitors which was so cool!

Cole not feeling well and having had pain all morning and morphine didn't want to talk to anyone (and he's shy), so he turned his head away in the photo but it was still awesome that they tried to engage him. So needless to say, Cole wasn't overly thrilled with the visitors, but we thought it was pretty cool! He got an autographed Big Slick baseball cap and a little Angry Birds stuffed animal (for Jason Sudeikis' new Angry Birds movie). Of course I wanted to call James Van Der Beek "Dawson," or "Mox," but I refrained 😬 Dad was extremely bummed that "Ant-Man" didn't make it to our room but he managed. 😊

It really was great to see celebrities giving back in this way and taking time to visit all of the children. Crazy to think about where we are with all of this stuff, but it was nice to see some positivity today.
