6/23/16. Back to the ER

Unfortunately, yesterday we dipped a little on our status. Throughout the day Cole's temp was 99 point something but then last night it elevated to 101.7. Because he has a PICC line, is on steroids, and being treated by HEMOC, once it hits 100.4 we are to call and take him in.  So, we made the trip to Children's Mercy ER.  There aren't local specialists for pediatric PICC lines so it's best to go to Children's Mercy as many ER's are a little nervous with the pediatric PICC's. We want the best care so making the drive was the best option.

While we live an hour away from the hospital, we had the great pleasure of also sitting on I-35 for over an hour due to construction and one-lane traffic so it took us over two hours to get there.. And why the heck are so many cars on the highway at 11pm on a Wednesday night??

They drew blood cultures from the PICC, took a chest x-ray, gave him more pain medicine for the pain he was having pretty bad, gave him Tylenol for the fever and gave him IV antibiotic through the PICC.  The HEMOC doctor on call felt he was stable enough to go home which was good. However, getting home at 3:30am and up early again is making for a tiring day so far.

We are to monitor him closely and call if anything changes, but otherwise sit tight until our appointment at the HEMOC clinic tomorrow.  At 10am this morning his temp was already back up to 100.2 or 100.5 depending which thermometer we use. Watching it closely and going to take it frequently, at least every hour, and call if it goes up any further.  Praying we don't have to make another trip there today, but concerning that the fevers are peaking their ugly head again.

Still having a lot of pain in his shoulder/side as he has been and tummy cramps as well, so we're continuing the pain medicine and hoping that helps alleviate some or all of the pain.

Also hoping to hear new information at our clinic appointment tomorrow after they had to send more samples out again which can take a week or more.  We need to sit tight today, eat and drink a lot, and keep these fevers away. Our weight is down so of course there's a possibility they may discuss a feeding tube again..hoping we don't need to resort to that, but we'll do whatever is best to get him better which includes gaining weight back however possible.

Continued thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.  Thank you to everyone for the continued support.
