Wanted to provide a brief update with where we're at, the week has gone by quickly!
Cole surprised everyone (not us of course!) and rallied this past weekend, getting his counts where they needed to be and fevers gone so he was able to go home Sunday evening! Still combatting the nausea and sores throughout his entire body as previously shared, but stable and well enough to go home. And being home always makes things better!
Yesterday and today were "good" days for Cole. We actually got to see some glimpse of his old self, which was heartwarming to see! He conversed with us, joked around a little bit, and overall just felt a bit better. We wish we could ride this out a while longer, but he checks in tomorrow, Thursday, for his 5-day chemo. He was scheduled for last Friday but his counts and body weren't ready. His counts were high enough to technically start Monday, but we just wanted to give his little body a small break to try to heal some more.
He'll be in-patient for the 5 days of chemo, most likely looking at going home on day 6 if he is stable and meets his markers. This kid remains so unbelievably strong and continues to fight! We are so proud of him!
So outside of the nausea, healing sores and just feeling crummy all the time, we enjoyed the few days where he seemed a bit more himself and felt better enough to engage. After this 5-day treatment he won't have anything until after his PET scan on 10/13 which will determine the next steps/plan moving forward. He'll resume chemo, not sure about any surgery until the scan, and will begin radiation most likely at the end of October/early November. Hopefully this break until the scan will allow some time for him to heal and we'll see our spirited title boy again for a while!
This is a brief update, but we wanted to share that we did get to bring our baby home for some days and it's been so wonderful having him at the house with all of us together. Home really does make a difference!
We appreciate the continued thoughts and prayers, our prayer warriors have been amazing!
Bless you all!
