When Life Calls, You Answer

Hello,

Chad completed his second cycle of chemotherapy today and let me tell you, he has been nothing short of amazing! He has been through so much and he's done it all with a big smile and a hilarious trail of Chadisms. He has kept all of us strong and positive simply by being himself and that says so much about his energy. I am having trouble with finding the words to describe how in awe I am of him and his perspective of life so I won't linger here, just know, who he is as a person takes my breath away. 

I mentioned a few days ago that one side of Chad's port was not able to be accessed. Today during the disconnect appointment it was decided to leave the port alone. I did a little research and we had a great talk with our nurse today and we are more than fine with the decision. Clogged or blocked ports are very common and not considered dangerous. Thankfully, Chad has a dual port and one side of the port was working just fine so he received his treatment without issue and that's what's most important. We realized that yes, they could have treated it today and got it clear but Chad has 10 days before he has to use it again and it could possibly block again and we wouldn't know it was blocked until he goes back for the next infusion. So, as I'm sure you guessed it just makes the most sense to leave it alone and if it needs treated at his next infusion it will be taken care of then. 

Chad conquered new territory during this infusion and headed out socially while wearing his pump. It hasn't been a secret that Chad doesn't particularly enjoy the time that he is connected to the pump but I am thankful that he was willing to be open-minded about it. He enjoyed some time at The Memorial Tournament and he planned an impromptu dinner out with friends. I don't know what it's like for him but I do know that he seemed really happy out enjoying a great day and I hope that I can help him figure out more ways to make that a regular thing. 

The CT scans are scheduled for Sunday afternoon. We are hoping, and wishing, and praying for positive results and we ask you all to join us in whatever form you send your love and juju into the universe and we thank you in advance. We did decide that we aren't going to wait around the house and worry while we wait for the results. We are going to go rest and recharge and laugh until it hurts. We head out first thing Monday morning and are looking forward to the break. 

It's just going to be Chad & I this trip, Cami had other plans. We are heading out Monday morning to Ft. Myers and Sanibel Island for the week. We wanted to make our first trip during treatment easy and familiar and I think we've made a great plan. We look forward to spending time with great friends while we are there. While we were planning this trip I realized something very special about Chad that I had always known but hadn't really appreciated. Chad is wonderfully thoughtful about keeping up with where his friends relocate to and are traveling to and making sure that if we're ever near anyone that he knows he tries to get together with them. Always. He skips texting and actually calls most of the time, it's fantastic. I mention this because we have a great week ahead of us in part because Chad makes those calls. I hope that if you're ever on the fence you think of Chad and go for it. If you're out of town for an event and you know an old friend lives nearby-CALL! If you get a call from an old friend that happens to be in town and wants to meet up-GO!
