Round One Rally

Good Evening Everyone!

We are back from sunny southwest Florida and are happy to share with you that the results from last Sunday's scans are in and we are pleased with the findings! Chad showed improvement in all 5 of the areas where cancer was found previously and there is no evidence of progression of disease or new areas of concern. The most significant improvement was in the omentum/upper abdomen area where the largest of the nodules decreased in size going from 1.7 x 1.4 cm to 1 x 1 cm. Three other lymph nodes were measurably smaller and there were quite a few nodules on the last scan that were no longer visible on this one. The chemotherapy and your prayers and support are working!! 

Overall, Chad has continued to have minimal side effects and his weight has held steady. He doesn't weigh what we would like but at least the rapid weight loss period seems to be over and now he fluctuates within a 5-10 pound window. His lab work was great this morning and he was approved to start round 2 of chemotherapy. His platelets were a little low so his dose of FOLFOX was reduced by 25%. There was no trouble with his port today and he received his infusion without incident and he is at home now with his pump. We were saddened to learn that Chad's oncologist, Dr. Grenade will be leaving at the end of the month. We had a great experience with her and will miss her positive attitude. We will meet his new oncologist on July 11th and are optimistic that he will be just as wonderful. 

We want to thank everyone that helped make our trip last week possible, so many of you helped us out in so many ways and we are thankful for all of it. I was a little worried about how flying might effect Chad but he was just fine. Chad and I really needed to take a break and we were able to relax, recharge, reset and rekindle. It was a lovely week of sunshine, beach waves, good food, good friends and it was just what the doctor ordered. Life was meant for good friends and great adventures and we can't wait for the next one.
