Laura’s 9am Thursday update

This morning I said good-bye to a steadfast Asheville friend and her husband. They, like others, have spent many days in Florida over the last two months supporting Liza and her family and friends. Meanwhile two other friends have rolled in to transition me through these difficult weeks without Liza’s daily phone calls and Snapchat reports. Luckily for me throughout this “fuckastrophy” (as a friend referred to it recently), I have always had Jack and Bryan nearby, not to mention the timely love from Elli and Beane.

Yesterday was both fabulous and frustrating. We started the morning with a boat ride through the inlet and into town, followed by a visit to the St Augustine Alligator Farm which is full of… you got it, alligators! along with crocodiles, sloths, snakes, lemurs, etc and a gorgeous assortment of birds flying (and pooping) freely. In the afternoon much of our crew visited our recently-purchased 1904 house in town that we’ve been renovating since the fall. I saw the progress that Bryan has made in my absence while he attempts to work by day and deliver improvements on the house in the evenings. By Bryan’s return to the inlet well past dusk, the answers to my - and your - many questions were still not answered. I promise that once I have any plans secured, I will make an announcement.

Today we’ll receive Liza’s cremains from the funeral home. I’m thinking that some may go in this inlet where she hung onto life long enough for many of her Fan-Club had the privilege of caring for her, receiving toe presses, or simply kissing her good-bye. Others will be taken to the mountains and some may go to Mexico, where she once told her boyfriend to bury her. Coincidentally, or not, tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, a favorite for Liza. In her spirit, make yourself a margarita “sin azucar” (or a mojito), grab a friend, and catch the sunset. Or maybe you’ll awaken in time to watch the sun rise and imagine Liza’s love and zest for life reaching out far and wide for all of us to feel.

We have tons of food and plenty of gifts, but if you really want to help, then ensure that Liza’s legacy lives on by making a contribution to:
