Death of Porlock
This morning I woke to find about a tablespoon of serosanguineous fluid (the fluid a wound makes) had leaked from my belly button -- gross. The incision, all 52 staples of it, is healing really well except for one staple deep in my umbilicus. With all the creases and crinkles in there it must be harder to get good closure. For anyone who wants to see my tummy prior to and after surgery, here is a link. (Mom, DON'T LOOK!) pre and post surgery tummy In the pre-op picture you can clearly see the tumor. I told Bruce we should name this unwelcome house guest, so with just a minute of googling he came up with "Porlock." "Person from Porlock" -- a perfectly esoteric and erudite name for an Oxford tumor. I told the pre op assessment nurse, thinking I was being all creative, that I named my tumor. She said, most patients do. Well, who knew.
Aside from that fun -- today was uneventful, thank goodness. Bruce played house husband, did laundry and continued to make my Cancer Warrior HQ comfy. Our dining room table looks like a pharmacy, my daily schedule like that of an octogenarian, but I feel stronger than yesterday -- progress. We took three little walks outside, totaling one mile!
I thought I'd end today's post with a quiz. Guess how much paperwork we generated. Admission to hospital for major surgery, consent forms, discharge forms, all the financial forms, everything. Answer in the next blog post, which might be on Monday. I think I'll take tomorrow off.

I won't look Enough positive news and delight to see both of your smiling faces this morning And I know the answer to the quiz Astounding! Really! Love Mom
You look pretty comfy for a post-surgery person! Love the tumor name--good job Bruce! Party on...
Glad Porlock is out of your life for good! I remember my mom named her tumor Tootsie. No idea why she chose that name:-)
Dunno how much paperwork is involved in UK hospitals. From my experience, major surgery in a US hospital: oh, somewhere between 14-18 inches of (tightly stacked) paperwork.
Michelle, you look great! Glad to hear you are feeling better every day and able to get some good walking time in. I can only imagine the amount of paperwork...similar to buying a house?? Love to you!
The mark of Porlock. He didn't give up without a fight, did he? But he definitely underestimated Michelle's resilience and determination and Dr Tizzl's skill. Rest in pieces, Porlock. Your warrior HQ looks really cozy. Hooray for the Ikea chair! Paperwork? I'm guessing it would provide the foundation for a nice-size bedside table, and that wouldn't even count things like the on-line forms or the post-surgery surveys that I've had to fill out for my knee surgeries.
