Adoption Realities

I wonder if God gets as excited in adopting us into his family as I am for adopting our child into ours. It can be impossible to comprehend God’s excitements but there is a lot we do know about our adoption.

Adoption is deliberate

“4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world…. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,” (Ephesians 1:4-5)

Before time even existed God has been planning the adoption of his children. Before we even knew of God he had chosen us in love that we would be part of his family through Jesus Christ.

Our child is over in India as I sit here in America. At this point, we do not know our child and our child does not know us. There is something profound about the reality that we will choose a child for ourselves and at this point they don’t even know we exist. We then will go get our child and make him or her a member of our family.

Adoption is personal

“…you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)

When the Bible uses the word “adoption” it can literally mean “son-placing.” This is the idea of sonship and daughtership with a father as a family. Sonship in the biblical period means you are in the line to receive the inheritance of the family. After the adoption is done the child is fully in the family with all its benefits and privileges. One of the greatest benefits of being adopted is to have parents to call upon.

As now God’s children we are no longer orphans, we no longer have to fear. We have a daddy to call upon! He is our Father personally; he knows who many hairs are on our head; he knows how many tears have fallen down our cheeks. He knows us and he wants us to call him Father!

I am so excited for the day when I get to hear my child call me “daddy!”—the day when my child will know that I am here for them and will be there for them no matter what. I will never stop being his or her father.

Adoption is costly

“God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:4-5)

Christ gave up his life to pay the price that we would be able to be children in his family.

Adopting our child from India is costly, try $34,000 costly. That is nothing compared to the price Christ funded for our adoption. This price is worth paying to be able to bring our child home.

_____________

Where Christ was able to pay the price for our adoption himself we, on the other hand, have needed your help. Thank you for all who have supported us so graciously! We are trusting God to continue to help provide for our adoption costs.
