It’s a girl!

David and I are OVERJOYED to tell you that this week we accepted a referral for a little girl!

How did we get here??

This happened so much faster than we were prepared for. After receiving approval from the U.S. and India we learned that families are usually matched with a child within six months. We were prepared to wait a few months, but only 8 DAYS after being approved our agency called to ask if we would like to see a file for a little girl. As we prayed over her and her file our nerves and little bit of fear were slowly replaced with eagerness and excitement, and now she is formally matched with us!

Age & Name

This precious girl is 1 ½ years old. When legality requires, we plan to take the name she has now and split it into two parts (sans a couple letters) and name her Kira May. We can’t post any photos until down the road when she is legally ours, but if you see me or David we’d be happy to show you a picture.

Process & Travel

From here, we have to complete more paperwork and be issued certain documents from India. Based on how the process is going for other adoptive families right now, we can loosely plan to travel to see her 6-8 months from now. Kira lives in a state that actually requires two visits, so we will travel for a court appearance, come home for 4-6 weeks, and then go back a second time to bring her HOME.Adoption Checklist

Thankfulness

We are thanking the Lord today for his faithfulness to us. For a long time now I’ve had a card with Joel 2:25 stuck above my kitchen sink. With one email, one photo, one file, one signature, it seems that God has restored to us years that it seemed the locusts had eaten. What often felt like wasted, waiting years—God sent those, and he has restored them to us.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.” Joel 2:25

We know that we will need to continue to rely on God’s faithfulness for everything to come. After all, Kira has no idea we’re coming. No idea she’s wanted and loved and that we are preparing a place for her here. She might not like us at first, or even for a while. We don’t have rose colored glasses about challenges that may await us, but for today, please join us in thanking God for this little girl!

“The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.” Psalm 126:3
