Progress
Hi! It’s us again! It’s been so long that maybe you forgot we were even in the midst of the adoption process still, but we finally have some progress to report. At the end of October we received our I-800A, which is provisional immigration approval. With that approval, it moved us on to submit a couple dozen documents to the Secretary of State to be apostilled. Then yesterday we received all of our approved, apostilled documents! An apostille is like a super-notary that notarizes all the notaries.
We originally submitted these documents in November, only to have half of them returned and rejected at the beginning of December. At the same time, my Dad was admitted to the hospital with pancreatitis and spent 30 days at three hospitals with two surgeries. It was just about all the emotional undertaking I could take to be set back in the adoption process at the same time. But the same process prevailed where something seems too hard, complicated and ridiculous and sits to the side for a day. Then I pray for patience, pull it out and find one thing I can do until it snowballs to completion.
What’s next:
- Submit all documents to our agency to be registered with CARA, India’s adoption authority. (12-20 weeks estimated. This part of the process has been extended significantly since Kira came home, where this took 5-6 weeks.)
- Wait for a referral/match! (6-18 months estimated wait)
Thank you for waiting, praying, and preparing with us!
