Praise God Through This Storm

Mom has had an eventful few weeks.  After finding out that her left lung had collapsed she was informed that this made her ineligible for the Clinical Trial that we all thought would be the next step in her treatment.  Clinical Trials require measurable tumors and the lung collapse prohibits that measure.

Mom, Dad, Beth, and Randy flew to NYC to visit Sloan Kettering Medical Center for a second opinion. The doctor at Sloan, in conjunction with her oncologist in Rochester, felt that typical chemotherapy was now in order.  While NYC is a great place to visit, having her treatment there would have been daunting. Mom feels a bit like Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies amidst the bustle of taxis, trains, subways, and traffic of the city!  A bonus to the NYC visit was that mom’s best friend from high school, Traci Thiele, took the train in from NJ and joined them for dinner.  It always brightens my mom’s day to spend time with her “bestie” since 7th grade. They had some laughs, good food, and hugs!

Yesterday, she had a drainage apparatus placed into her lung so that a visiting nurse can drain the fluid that continues to accumulate leaving her short of breath.  She then went to the infusion center to have her first dose of chemo.  It was a busy day to say the least. She is tired and very sore. She is spending a few days resting and, as always, is fervently praying for a positive outcome for this new treatment plan.

We will be walking in a Relay For Life this summer in LeRoy in honor of Mom on August 8-9. If anyone would like to join our team or donate, please see the link below! Thank you for all of your support it means so much to all of us!

Thank you for the update, Reilly. Your posts are so wonderfully written and speak of such amazing strength and perseverance as Cris and your family take on each new day. Each time I receive a post, I share the update to my Charlottesville Catholic School Prayer Warriors. We will pray that this next treatment be "the one" to take it on fully and eradicate it completely!!! We will also pray for supernatural strength and power everyday for Cris to continue this courageous fight. Your mom is such an incredible light in this world even through this trial...that says so much! Here are a couple of verses that are good to have nearby to help keep this light burning strong within all of you. God comfort, love and bless all of you~ Cousin Anne "For you, LORD, make my lamp shine; my God enlightens my darkness." Psalm 18:28 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Dear Cris, I just wanted to let you know I'm praying for you. I was actually at the infusion center on Thursday too with my mom who is battling breast cancer. That chemo is so nasty. She always feels terrible for the first week afterwards, but then she feels better each day. I hope your yucky days are few and that you are feeling better and stronger today. I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I am amazed by your strength and grace. Stay strong!
