He's a tough guy

So I guess it is common after extended radiation therapy to become very fatigued.  The doctor told us that after about the 5th week of radiation therapy that he would begin to be fatigued.  And after he is done with radiation therapy that he would experience even more fatigue.  This is true.  Derek is very fatigued.  They said possibly 4 to 6+ weeks of continued fatigue.

He naps and rests most of the day.  I called the doctor today because I just wanted to verify that his symptoms were in line with what they expected.  The doctor's biggest concern was that he was still eating.  I guess some people will sleep 18+ hours of the day and eat very little.  Derek does have an appetite so it is good that he is eating.

He keeps pushing onward. He does what he can with the energy that he has.  Then he rests.  He is a tough guy.  He keeps a positive attitude and always looks to Jesus for strength.

Keep him in your prays.  They are working.

Angela is doing well. She had her stitches removed and her incision is healing well. I think it looks pretty good. The plastic surgeon did a good job.  When I look at her straight on, it is nearly impossible to see anything.  She is still pretty tired though.  She still prefers to wear her Jaw Bra (That is what it is called) that holds her jaw and muscles for her.  Otherwise her face starts to ache.    Her official results came back and her tumor is benign.  But this type of tumor has a tendency to return, says the doctor, so she will have to follow up and keep an eye on the location. She was able to remove the tumor without breaking the shell of the tumor which the Dr said would help  decrease the chance of recurrence.

The tumor wrapped itself around some nerves, thus the Dr had to gently tease the nerve off the tumor, so she did lose some ability to move her face.  The doctor is hopeful that she will regain control slowly over the next 6 months. The feeling to her ear will not come back but that was a known side effect of surgery.

Thanks everyone

Zell

It was nice to see Angela and little Kate around the office this week. I am sorry I only had time to say hi in passing. Sleep is a powerful healer, so for Derek along with so many prayers being said for him, I am hoping his awake time brings him some joy. Hugs to the Young family for continued healing and strength. My prayers for you all continue.

Thanks for the update! I'm so glad everything has gone so well with Angela! I remember well those days when Judah slept most of the day. It will pass but it's hard wishing they were enjoying things like normal. God bless!

Thank you for the update. It is very informative. Derek and you have gone and still are going through so much. Derek is quite the little guy. He must have a great attitude. Glad to hear he is eating well. Tell him to keep up the good work. Happy to hear the surgery on Angela's tumor went well. Know that all will go well with healing. Rudy and I think so much of you two and pray all will continue to go well. Keep the faith.
