Introducing Emma Morgan

Emma Katharine Morgan was born in Madison, WI, on November 6, 2012. I'm her Mum, Katy, and her Dad is Adam. Other than the fact I was carrying two babies, (Emma has a twin brother, Daniel) my pregnancy was relatively normal. At one point there were some concerns about Emma's size, and the doctors pondered whether or not she had optimal blood flow from her placenta.

The morning of my c-section went very smoothly, everything to plan. My blood pressure plummeted and I vomited most of the beginning of the operation. The babies came out within 2 minutes of one another, and Daniel had an APGAR score of 9, they held him over the blue curtain and I got to see him before he was whisked off to the giant panda warming table and his team of doctors/nurses. Emma came out the same way, but her APGAR score was 4 and she was in respiratory distress. Before I got to touch or hold my little girl she was put in an incubator and rushed up to the NICU. Emma was gone from me for 4 hours and I still hadn't touched her. I didn't know what was going on, and just had to hope for the best. To this day I don't know what happened to her in the NICU. She was born weighing 5lbs 9oz. From birth through the second week of life little Emma was 0 percentile for weight and height, so she was truly a tiny and very precious little bundle.
