Update from Salt Lake City

Eric and I met with his oncology team for the first time this morning. Dr. Colman and his team are very personable, knowledgeable, and caring. As scary as it was walking into the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), everyone we encountered made it much easier. We completed some preliminary planning with his oncology team, have a rough plan pieced together, and are still waiting for some very specific genetic sub-typing of his tumor before proceeding with treatment which will most likely be an aggressive radiation and chemotherapy combination however the results of the pending tests will hopefully allow a few more treatment options.

We will be returning home to Helena late tomorrow for the foreseeable future until the entire treatment plan is solidified. In the meantime, HCI and Dr. Colman along with the radiation oncology team will be meeting with us virtually so that Eric can continue to recover in the comfort of our home and on our local trails.

After the longest doctor appointment of our lives, we needed a reprieve from all of the intense medical decision making, so we hopped in the rental car, and took off on a self-guided tour of SLC. We found an authentic Thai restaurant and enjoyed a delicious lunch.

Thanks to a recommendation from one of our friends, we ended up at the Loveland Aquarium for some much needed and appreciated escapism. Watching sharks and penguins seems like a very weird way to spend the day, but it was oddly soothing.

We continue to appreciate all of the love and support from our family and friends. We consider ourselves very fortunate to know so many kind and generous people and definitely can not do this without all of you.

My heart goes out to both of you as you are faced with the some of the scariest decisions and planning you have ever had. I am praying for both of you. May Eric receive the care and treatment he needs for full recovery, healing and remission. I am so very sorry you are faced with this horrible condition. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. We love you so much J and we'll be sending a donation very soon. Hang in there and be strong for each other. We will try to help however we can. Love, Linda and Christopher
