Three Months!
Happy Fourth of July! Eric and I hope that everyone had a happy and safe holiday!
We are celebrating! Not only the Fourth of July but also Eric's three month mark! That's right! We can hardly believe it too, but Eric's diagnosis and surgery were on 4-5-2021! Cheers to hitting the three month mark!
As part of celebrating we have both been doing a lot of reflecting on this journey. It continues to amaze us both how many people have helped us along the way. From our care providers to our friends and family, we couldn't do this without you! From the ER care providers who acted swiftly to get us to more advanced help, to the neurosurgery team who provided the best care imaginable. From the neuro-oncology team who spends time answering all of our questions to the radiation oncology team who spent time showing us the science behind the treatment. From friends who have helped with everything from mowing the lawn, shoveling gravel, taking care of dogs, and mailing us things from Helena to friends who continue to drop in just to say hi, take us to coffee, or travel across the country to visit us. From family that randomly shows up to family who just knew what needed to be done and did it. We can't help but feel all of the love.
Whether it's an invitation to Outdoor Movie night, or an invitation to go boating, we have appreciated the immense amount of support. Both financially and emotionally. Every day we see amazing people that do amazing things! (Isn't that the definition of a superhero?) We are extremely grateful to have these amazing people in our lives. You are all superheroes in our book!
Since being home, we have been busy hiking our local trails, paddleboarding to stay cool, surfing, hanging out with friends, fishing with dad, and generally just trying to recover from the six weeks we were away. Johnanna has began the return to work process and has started treating a few patients. Eric continues to recover well, finished up teaching his summer school class, and is trying to stay as active as possible.
Unfortunately along with all of the good things the past couple of weeks, we also had to say goodbye to our old friend Shelby. She provided us with so much love and support the past 8 years, but especially throughout the last few months. She helped us the best way she knew how which was to show us unconditional love. We miss this big chunk of our family dearly.
Thank you to each and everyone of you for all of your support the past three months. We know we have said it before, and we will probably say it again (many, many, many more times) but thank you! We truly couldn't do this without you.

Thank you for the update!! I sooo look forward to hearing about your latest adventures as well as seeing the photographs. Knowing where you're at in the process and just what's going on in life in general, helps me to feel connected when I'm states away. Thinking of you 2 as your hearts heal from the loss of Shelby. Thanks for showing me, and so many others, what it truly looks like to live life to the fullest!!
Sorry to hear about Shelby. I’m happy to hear things are going well and you’re staying so active.
Thank you for sharing and keep on keepin' on! Our best regards to both of you.
Patriotic greetings from Fairfax, Iowa! I am always happy when I see an update. I’m sorry to hear about Shelby… I know the Sullivans and their pets. We’ve been lucky to share several of the neighborhood dogs, and I know that we all get attached. I love seeing the pictures and we are sending congratulations on the three month mark!
So glad to know you are back in the hood, J and Eric. We will shout your names from the top of the Cube Iron Cataract area in Cabinet Mountains, from one backpacking couple to another. Hello out there. Big toothed smile along with this note, shining at you both. Hugs and love, BnP
