Happy New Year!

I told Eric and J that I would share an update a few weeks ago, but I've struggled to figure out what to share. While sitting inside on a cold and snowy new year's day I decided it was time. Reflecting on this past year, it's hard not to focus in on the anger, frustration, and sadness  that we have all felt with Eric's diagnosis. However, I find myself thinking more about all of the amazing connections we've made, the wonderful friends and family that continue to show up for Eric, and of course Eric's fighting spirit.

Eric's most recent MRI showed no definite findings of disease progression. (queue the happy dance). Eric's brain is kind of amazing! This is not to say that there are not challenges. Chemo is no joke! But I have been so proud of Eric for getting back out on the trails and finding his running legs again. He was even able to get back into the classroom to help support his fellow teachers and students finish out their semester.

Now we head into the new year with renewed energy and focus. Assuming Eric's lab levels come up he'll start another round of the same chemo medication in the next few days.

In the meantime, I'm grateful for the community of people that continue to surround our entire family with love and support. This journey is not easy and we could not navigate each step without every one of you. We are working to focus on the positives...Eric's positive MRI results, his ability to get back into the classroom this upcoming semester, and more time on the trails he loves.

From my family to all of you, we wish you a very happy new year filled with health and happiness.

Thank you for your words, so very well said. It is a mystery why bad things happen to such good people. And as we try to figure it out we see the goodness in those who come to the aid of those affected. We pray and we cry out in anguish - please help the one we love who begs for a long life. Take me instead - let Eric live, the one who fills the entire space with his existence. And when I feel defeated in the offering of this prayer, I see the fight, the determination, the dedication to living, and the acceptance of the assigned journey. So, I hunker down and I promise - You, all of you, will never stand alone in this fight! God bless you all and your love for each other!
