Challenging Few Weeks
It has been a particularly challenging few weeks for Eric and we felt like it was time for a Post Hope update.
This disease is mean and has taken a toll recently. Eric's mobility has decreased dramatically and he has lost much of the function of his right arm and leg. His vision also continues to be impacted. As you can imagine, this makes walking, typing, eating ... challenging. In true Eric style, he has reluctantly accepted the help of a walker and occasionally the wheel chair. Occasional in home help, and a steady rotation of family members, are there to ease the load. But this change has been a lot to carry for both Eric and Johnanna.
Eric's humor is sharp and dry and he is taking this dramatic change of his health in stride. However, a quick text, a phone call, a card, dropping off a frozen meal, or really any gesture that would cause them to laugh would be helpful.
I got to visit Eric and J over Thanksgiving week. We cooked a lot, laughed about past misadventures, and Eric even humored me by doing some drawings with his left hand. My sister, Julie, is currently in Helena and has busted out all the Christmas decorations. Next comes my older brother Doug and then Dad will come to lend a hand.
We are grateful for all of the amazing people in Eric and J's lives. When things get real you people show up - thank you.
- Emily (Eric's sister)
