Monday August 14

12:30pm

We just got the most reassuring news yet. The trauma doctor that has been working with Stephanie since the moment she arrived at the Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, just reviewed her last ct scan and said things are looking stable, reconfirming what other metrics have been showing. This is such a relief as we head into 60+hrs post accident.  If all continues to remain stable, the doctors hope to be able to start weaning her off her sedation in 3-5 day (she's currently in a medically induced comma), and hopefully very slowly start wake her.  That will be a slow process & it will take time for the Steph we know to be back.[...]

Sunday August 13

Thank you to everyone for all your thoughts & prayers! We can feel all your energy, and your comments are uplifting.

Steph went into another surgery this morning to remove a blood clot & to help give the brain room to swell & heal.  The neurosurgeon explained that, like many injuries, the worst of the swelling often comes 48-72 hours after the incident.  So, the swelling is expected (we're nearing the 48 hr mark).  But, the clot & additional pressure in her brain was a set back.   Since the surgery this morning though, she's been doing (& looking) better.  Right now things seem stable, but we are taking things hour by hour.  She is incredibly strong & is fighting so hard.  Doctors said her will, courageous personality, health, and youth are incredible assets.[...]

Day 3

Just when we thought Stephanie was in the clear and starting the healing process a recent scan showed a clot in her head. She is undergoing yet another surgery to remove the clot. She is experiencing more swelling in her brain and needs now, more than ever, the support from all her friends and family. We love you, Stephanie, and your beautifully sweet soul. [...]

Day 2

Stephanie is suffering from a major brain injury. She has undergone one brain surgery, removing a part of her skull, with the hopes of minimizing the swelling and pressure. She is in a medically induced coma and will remain that way for a few more days. The part of her brain that has been affected is speech and language. We don't know for sure what that means until she wakes up. There is the potential for a full recovery but it will be a long and hard road. If anyone can do it, Steph can! C'mon Stephanie! We are all rooting for you! So many people need you. [...]

Day 1

On Friday evening, August 11th, Stephanie was biking home from dinner out with Dennis and some friends. She fell victim to a hit & run and suffered a severe blow to her head. She was immediately hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury. We want to use this space to help keep her amazing network of friends and family updated with how she is doing and more importantly to collect words of encouragement to keep her going. Right now she is being sedated and not able to interact, but once she is woken up, she is going to need to hear & feel as much as support as possible. So, share an uplifting story, post photos, and offer your cheers (we'll read them and show them to her). And send all the prayers & positive healing energy that you can. Stephanie lives for her friends and family. She needs you all more than ever now (so does Dennis)[...]
