Surgery complete!
Kirby came out of a 4.5hr surgery late yesterday afternoon and is doing well. The surgeon told us this morning that everything went as well as it could have. In addition to the mastectomy she had four lymph nodes removed from her underarm. None of the lymph nodes showed any indication that the cancer had spread, so we are both very pleased. She has been moving around out of bed and has already started physiotherapy. She is being cared for by some great nurses. The next step will be meeting with the oncologist next week after she has recovered some more. The expected recovery time from surgery is 6 weeks so it will be a long journey, especially with the chemotherapy component. I'm really proud of the way she has handled everything so far.
The kids have been wonderful and have kept busy at home with school, craft, and Mario Kart (none of them are anywhere close to beating me and I refuse to show any compassion for them when it comes to Wii competitions). They have a bunch of activities planned for the week and are very keen to get outside and play in the rain. Scarlett is pretty keen on wearing princess dresses every day, and they're both requesting all kinds of hair styles that I have never heard of. Talented YouTube Dads are not helping me either.
Again, we want to thank everyone for their well-wishes and support. Kirby should be able to write an update from hospital over the coming days.
Every setback is an opportunity.

Thanks for the time to update us, never in doubt our amazing Kirby would step into this challenge with absolute determination! Step one complete and some positive news welcomed. Good effort at home you're definitely afforded the enjoyment of small wins (albeit on the video games over minors, haha). Those Princess dresses will not remain in one piece or clean long but that is well worth all the rain fun. Love to you all. X
