Homecoming
She's home!
Kirby was released from hospital yesterday, a little earlier than expected. It was a very welcome surprise for all of us; especially the kids. She remains on heavy pain relief medication and has been resting quite a lot. The surgery has caused limited movement in Kirby’s right arm and altered sensation which should both improve over time. The kids have been great, although Scarlett sometimes forgets that she's not playing full-contact Aussie Rules around the house and that she needs to be gentle. They're both very happy to have Mum back, particularly after their week-long basic training experience helping me with chores around the house.
The oncologist has requested that Kirby recover from surgery prior to review so will see her on the 8th September. This is where we'll be given a clearer indication of the chemotherapy treatment plan for the months ahead. The ACT remains in COVID lockdown until at least 2nd September, but we're planning on it being extended beyond that.
Again, we would like to say thank you to everyone for their ongoing support and encouragement. We’re so grateful to Paul and Kara Carter who set up a GoFundMe fundraising page for us. It was only recently that their daughter, and our God-Daughter Ellie, was diagnosed with leukemia and we were trying to support them. In terms of the donations, we are quite literally lost for words. We will be thanking each and every one of you individually, but please accept our deepest thanks for everything you’ve done. We are also very grateful for the community around us that have kept us well fed. We truly don’t feel like we are in this alone, but instead surrounded by a great big extended family.
The costs associated with treatment as well as other expenses are at this stage largely unknown, but the health system (both public and private) is first-rate, and it’s times like these that we feel very lucky to be Australians.
Thank you again to everyone.
Every setback is an opportunity.
Love Kirby and Chris

Look at you with your beautiful girls ❤ you are so loved and you are in my thoughts everyday❤
Great news that Kirby is at home. Much nicer there than in hospital regardless of how good care they take of you. Rest up and build your strength.
Great news that you are home Kirby!! Just shout if you need anything……doorstep drops of course!! 🤪
Kirby i wish you the very best. I was so touched that you answered my messages today as i was in so much shock this has happened to someone so young someone i know, and one of my favorite nurses to work with. You amaze me how brave you are and I know deep down you will get through this just like my mother got through this recently. I have every bit of faith in our health system and you are so intelligent and strong and this also helps with your recovery and your journey to come with chemotherapy. Take care and i am happy to support in anyway i can. Love to your wonderful family. They are awesome :)
You’re certainly not in this alone. You have so much support around you and your extended family will be right beside you the whole way ❤️❤️
