Round 1, Day 3

I could get used to this, but I know it won't always be like this. Today has been as uneventful as yesterday. So no complaints about the chemo. So far, his "man colds" are worse than this. Of course, I would gladly take one of his "man colds" over this, anyday. That was not me complaining.

Mike felt a little more tired this morning, but fatigue has been plaguing him for so long, it was nothing new. We walked and  daydreamed today about how fun it will be when this is all over and he will have the energy to play with the kids. I'm looking forward to those days as much as he is.

Mike had a good breakfast and lunch, so we're glad he still has a good appetite. He got a shower in, which always makes a person feel a little better.

I was getting a little bit of "cabin fever" this afternoon so I did what I do best- I went to Target. :) I walked around there and things kept falling in my cart. (How does that happen?!) I went ahead and paid for it all, since it was in my cart, and then treated myself to Starbucks. I stopped at Wendy's to get Mike a chocolate frosty & some fries. yum! He was pretty happy about that little surprise when I got back.  I had hoped he'd get a nap in while I was gone, but he said it was a revolving door. The first chemo bag had finished, so he was unhooked and free when I walked in the door. As soon as I walked in he said, "I'm free, let's make a run for it!" I wonder how far he'd get?  Dr. Bennani, his Oncologist stopped to check on him. She was glad to hear it was all going ok. They have a consult appointment with the new Oncologist at KU Med, set up for us on Thursday, the 18th which is a few days before he starts Round 2. We are really looking forward to getting back home, but we feel really comfortable & happy with the care he is getting here. I know it will be ok at KU too, though.

At 4:30 they hooked up the 2nd 24hr bag of the 3 Chemo meds. Let's hope this bag is as kind to him, but relentless on the cancer, as the first bag!

Mike did admit to me this afternoon that he had a little breakdown this morning. I am actually glad, because I think it's good to have all the feelings. I know mine change like the wind, but that's nothing new (poor husband!)haha. He worries about the kids seeing him sick. He worries about not getting to spend the quality time with them that he wants to. I try to remind him that we just have to get through this so he can be cured and have the rest of his HEALTHY life to help me run our little circus. Those monkeys cannot be contained by only one ringmaster. No sir.

I almost had a little meltdown of my own this afternoon. I'm serious when I say I go from having a super positive, fighting attitude and 2 minutes later, I'm in the corner sucking my thumb. Ok, not really. But I do get scared. Instead of walking through the hall making everyone wonder why I was crying, I called one of my friends. And then I lost it. And then I composed myself and she made me feel better and that is why our friends are amazing. Like, she picked up before it even rang, I think. :)

Speaking of phone calls, we have both gotten a couple of calls from friends who have just cracked us up today. Thanks for the calls, friends! We also face timed with the kids. It's so fun and great to talk to them, and so hard at the same time. I see Reid start crying and I just want to jump right in that phone and snatch him up to hug him. I want to hold that baby so bad. Lucy's laugh is like nothing else in the world. I could listen to her crack herself up all day.  Molly has her first loose tooth and she is SO excited. It's getting close to falling out, and I will probably be that crazy mom bawling over here because I wasn't there for her first lost tooth. This is the conversation we had about losing teeth:

Me, "So, what happens after you lose your tooth?"

Molly, "THE TOOTH FAIRY COMES!!!!"

Me, "What does the tooth fairy do?"

Molly, "SHE LEAVES ME WHATEVER I WANT!!!!!"

Me, "REALLY?! What do you want?"

Molly, " A PENNY!!!!"

Ok, so hopefully if we aren't home when the big event happens, Grandma and Grandpa can pass this info on to the Tooth Fairy. I know, it's a lot to ask. :)

XoXo

Thanks Robin for keeping us all posted, you are a rock. PS. If Lucy has a laugh like her daddy I bet she's a blast to listen to. Hugs and prayers Brandon and Michelle Underwood.
