The Game Plan To Devise A Game Plan |4-23-16|

Dr. Bennani called Mike yesterday around lunch time to give us the new game plan. She made an appointment for him to get blood work done on Monday, 4-25, and then scheduled him for a CT guided biopsy of the cancer in his chest on Tuesday. This is how fast things happen at Mayo. It always amazes me when they say they're going to do something and the next day they have everything scheduled. I can't tell you how much I love that place, and the people who work there.

So we are heading back North on Sunday night to travel down this new, old path. The path that makes us feel nervous for what's to come, but hopeful for the outcomes.

The biopsy is dependent on the comparison of the old and new PET scans, so in reality, this little game plan we've got going could all change. We're getting used to that feeling.

I was telling Mike that I'm looking at this in a positive way: he gets to enjoy these recent days of feeling good and doing stuff, without the dread of going back into the hospital on Tuesday. He is trying to soak up this little "break", as we will lovingly refer to it, while he gets more time to visit with some friends and do some farm work.

Yesterday was a really good day for him. It was good for me, too, because he cleaned out my car. (I tend to neglect that...)  :) He also got to do some farmer things, and then we had a nice evening at a friend's house where the kids got to see their new bucket calves and help feed them. It's those normal, seemingly small, things that boost his spirits the most. The things we used to take for granted and passed on those opportunities more times than not, that we are realizing are the best moments in life. We enjoyed talking to our friends as the kids played tag, danced to music, and got dirty. We felt refreshed and happy. I want to live life like that as often as possible from now on.

Hopefully we will get a new game plan this next week, and get on the path to having those fun nights at our fingertips, whenever we choose. Maybe I'll even clean the car more often. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

XOXO

Robin
