Another Round Down |5-27-16|
This month has been crazy. I think May is pretty hectic for everyone, right? Graduations, weddings, birthdays, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, swimming lessons, Regional & State Track meets, Chemo treatments...
After Mike's first round of ICE chemo at the beginning of the month, he did pretty well. He only had a couple days right afterwards where he stayed in bed the entire day. The rest of the 2.5 weeks were busy, and exhausting for him. (And for me.)
We couldn't make it to all of the graduation parties that we would have liked to have attended, but we did get to a couple. We also hosted a small party for our niece, Marissa, as she graduated from Highland Community College this year. She's going to continue her college education at K-State in the fall.
My sister in law, Jenny, got the girls in the family tickets to see Carrie Underwood in KC a couple weeks ago, and that was a really fun girls night out!
Molly & Lucy completed this round of swimming lessons, and more importantly, they graduated from Pre-School! Mike was so happy that he was able to see their program and enjoy the day.
On Tuesday, May 24, Mike checked back into the hospital to start the 2nd round of ICE. We got home last night, May 26th. Reid and Mike's parents came down for a short visit on Wednesday, which was really nice. Reid was thrilled to explore this new world. All of the nurses had to stop and say hi, and tell him how much he looked like his daddy. (I would have to disagree with this!) Three days in the hospital is such a breeze compared to the 5-6 day stay he was doing. Hopefully this stuff is working. We will find out after he has a scan in a couple weeks. The future for his treatment will be determined by this scan, so I'll update those plans after we find out.
I'm hoping these next couple weeks go as smoothly as the past couple weeks have gone. The only thing that could make it better would be if the sun would shine more, and the rain would stay away. At least until July when we seem to need it, but don't get it.
In other happy news: Tomorrow our little guy turns 2! I am excited for his birthday, but also in awe that he is already 2 years old. Life has been a pretty crazy roller coaster these past 24 months. I feel sooo lucky to be his mama. That kid melts my heart into a puddle on a daily basis. I added a picture of Mike with Reid on the day Reid was born. I'll never forget that day, down to every single detail, for the rest of my life. He was the surprise of a lifetime, and he is his Mommy & Daddy's shining star.
xoxo

Been thinking of you and praying a lot! I very much remember Mr Reid's birthday, too!! I'm so glad this new chemo round is going so well and hopefully it's working wonders. Love you!
Robin- You do so well at finding the joy in every day. I admire you. I'm not sure if you guys have talked about any counseling with any of your care providers, but my hospital had a "Cancer Patient Support" network that had psychologists who specialized in supporting cancer patients and spouses. I didn't connect with mine until I was done treatment and had anxiety about the future of my health, but should have utilized them earlier. Not sure if you or Mike would see this as helpful, but it is good for you to know these things exist in case you'd like to make use of them some day. Take care. Prayers are still coming from Vermont!
