Day -6 |1-11-17|

We have pretty much settled into our little room at the Hope Lodge. Saying goodbye to the kids went well, and honestly, there were far fewer tears than I anticipated.

Day -7 (counting down to day 0, which is when he gets his cells infused) was yesterday, and it went really well. It was a long day of chemo, but we had great nurses to help pass the time. When I say "great nurses", I mean, nurses who will laugh at Mike's jokes (a must for him) and nurses who can give him a hard time right back (a must for me). Ok, they are great nurses in other ways too, but these qualities are among the more rare traits we look for. And really, all of the nurses in the BMT clinic have been pretty awesome.

While we were waiting for the pharmacy to make his chemo, he asked for a sprite to drink. Well, some time went by, and when our nurse came back in, he asks her, "Is the pharmacy making my sprite, too?" Turns out the sprite got sent to another patient's room, and it was the last sprite. Imagine the ammo that gave him to keep harassing these poor women.

The chemo he got was alcohol based, so they warned of him feeling a little drunk/hungover. As the time passed, his face got pretty red and his eyes got squinty, just like when he's had a few drinks. He said he was nervous he was going to say something stupid...like that would be a first! Geez.

Last night was the much anticipated (by Mike) Bingo Night at the Hope Lodge. He loves to play Bingo, which I think is only because he loves any situation where everyone is quiet and it gives him the perfect opportunity to crack a joke and get a room full of people to laugh. Or, he can laugh at his own jokes, and then everyone laughs at his laugh. I don't know exactly. But it I did win the first round, for the record!

This morning we are already back at the clinic getting ready to start chemo again. Today- Saturday he will get chemo twice a day. (At 8:30 & 4:30) Sunday will be a short chemo treatment, and then rest on day -1 (Monday).

I hope it all continues to go smoothly, and we'll be home as a family in a few short weeks!

Xo

Glad to hear things are going well and hope they continue to. Just have never thought about going to the hospital and getting "drunk". I am so hoping and praying this procedure all works great and you will be home soon with Mike feeling great. Continuous prayers being sent your way.

I can just hear Mike laughing at his own jokes--that's exactly what Danny does too! Glad things are going smoothly. Thanks for the update. Continued prayers!
