Day +1 A New Beginning |1-19-17|
If there weren't surprises along the way, I would be surprised. We found out Tuesday morning that there were 9 bags of cells to reinfused. Typically, a patient has 2. This was due to the fact that he has had so much chemo and it made the stem cells less concentrated. There were lots of white blood cells also in the bags, which they couldn't separate out. There is a preservative in the cells to be able to freeze them, and only so much of it is safe for a person to receive in a day. So they had to split it up, and he received 5 bags on Tuesday and 4 yesterday.
It isn't as easy of a process as they lead us to believe, but Mike got through it ok.
Wednesday morning he was throwing up, and I hated the helpless feeling it gave me. Once we got to the clinic and they gave him medication for it, and some fluids, then he was a little better.
This morning he was really nauseous again, but the meds and fluids once again, saved the day.
So he says he has 3 birthdays now, and for everyone to plan accordingly.
Now we just wait for his body to start getting stronger. This week is, and will be, the hardest week. His counts have dropped from the chemo, he got his new cells, and now it's time to build back up.
We are missing the kids like crazy. I'm getting a little emotional over almost everything. Geri Lynn Harris suggested retail therapy and I confessed that I did find a dog I would like to go get from an animal shelter down here. She said that wasn't the kind of retail therapy she was talking about! Mike didn't think this was the best time for another dog, either, but I don't know why not!
Sorry to write a short and boring post, but wanted to update while I had a minute. Time to think about dinner.... what should I microwave tonight?! Ha.
