Update
Hi all,
Michael continued to improve over last weekend. His oxygen levels were the best they’ve been in weeks, with the vent coming down as low as 30%. He is still critically ill and heavily dependent on the ECMO machine, which thankfully continues to perform very well since the switch.
On Tuesday morning Michael’s surgeon inserted a chest tube to drain the fluid outside of the left lung, in order to give the lung the best chance at expanding and healing.
We were thrilled to finally see the first sign of improvement in the left lung on the daily x-ray Wednesday morning. While very minimal, there was a slight increase in aeration in both the left and right lungs. We pray his lungs continue to heal quickly.
As is the nature of the ICU, Michael has unfortunately run into a couple of roadblocks this week. First, he developed a new infection which doctors fortunately identified and have started to treat with targeted antibiotics. It is equally important that they identify the source of infection as to prevent it from reoccurring. Second, Michael has a persistent bleed at the back of his throat which has proved difficult to stop. This morning the medical team moved Michael from the ICU to the operating room to search for the source of Michael’s bleeding. At the time of this posting, doctors continue to search for the source of Michael’s bleeding with the ultimate goal to stop the bleeding. Successful resolution of this issue is critical to Michael’s recovery. Fortunately, Michael’s vitals have remained stable throughout this eventful day.
We pray that Michael continues to do well in the OR and that doctors successfully stop the bleeding. We pray the antibiotics knock out the new infection, and that doctors find the source of infection. We pray that Michael’s oxygen metrics continue to improve and most importantly that his lungs continue to heal.
We are going to postpone this evening’s live rosary as we do not know when Michael will return from the OR. We appreciate your continued prayers❤️🙏

Thank you Sarah, for this update. I know how totally absorbed and engaged you and your family are right now with your son and brother, cousin and friend, and I so very appreciate your taking time out of that to come and write to us and tell us how he is doing. Our family is very anxious, although in another manner, for his recovery. We are praying constantly for him and will continue to do so. Our Rosary tonight, our Masses, Adoration hours, good works, sacrifices. . . . are continually prayed with him and all of you in mind. It's so good to hear that Michael's oxygen levels are improving! We pray that his recovery continues and that he can beat these latest medical challenges. He really is a fighter! The power of prayer is limitless.

We are prayerfully awaiting good news from the OR. From Mark's Gospel today: 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, 'My child, your sins are forgiven'.... ...10 But to prove to you that the Son of man has authority to forgive sins on earth' -- 11 he said to the paralytic- 'I order you: get up, pick up your stretcher, and go off home.' 12 And the man got up, and at once picked up his stretcher and walked out in front of everyone, so that they were all astonished and praised God saying, 'We have never seen anything like this.' But WE have!!! And we continue to be GRATEFUL as we WITNESS God's healing hand in Mike's recovery! We can expect Mike's physical health to not only be restored, but to be BETTER than before; SO GOOD is our God! We are grateful to all the doctors and nurses attending to Mike. Let us also be grateful for ALL He is doing in all of OUR lives as we pray for Mike's recovery! Our Faith combined is healing Mike. Praise be to God.
