Prayers For Healing

"Heal me Lord, and I shall be healed…" Jeremiah 17:14.

^^ I love that verse. It's one of my favorites. I quote it over and over, into many areas of my life. Now I pray it over and over for my mom.

Another verse on my mind is one my mom prays each day over her own body:

"I will not die, but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done." Psalm 118:17, NIV

"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." KJV

Considering the current leukemia situation, I also think of King David negotiating with God:

Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing;
heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O LORD—how long?

Turn, O LORD, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
For in death there is no remembrance of you;
in the grave who will give you praise?

O Lord, by these things men live,
and in all these is the life of my spirit.
Oh restore me to health and make me live!

And then, King David's response at the end of his plea:

The LORD has heard my plea;
the LORD accepts my prayer.

Psalm 6

And likewise, after King Hezekiah in the book of Isaiah is told (by God!) that his illness will lead to death, he cries out to God, and God heals his body, offering him many more years of life. Hezekiah responds to the Lord in this way:

Behold, it was for my welfare
that I had great bitterness;
but in love you have delivered my life
from the pit of destruction,
for you have cast all my sins
behind your back.

For the grave (Sheol) does not thank you;
death does not praise you;
those who go down to the pit do not hope
for your faithfulness.

But the living, the living, he thanks you,
as I do this day;
the father (the mother!) makes known to the children
your faithfulness!

The LORD will save me!
And we will play my music on stringed instruments
all the days of our lives,
at the house of the LORD.

Isaiah 38

Lord God, you are good and gracious. You alone preserve our life. Unto you belong glory and honor and power and strength and majesty. We look to you, to you alone, to uphold and heal and restore.

Be glorified in my mom, in Laura, Lord. We invite you to display your majesty, and your might, and your authority. Father, look to your Daughter. Spirit, please breath your life into her lungs and bones. Jesus, please, make her whole. Grant her long life and prosperity, so that she can praise your name to others and declare for many years to come the works of the Lord. May there be a full end to this illness, a full stop to the progression of the disease. Like a child, I am asking you simply, please take it away, and let the next scan show no signs of any darkness in her lungs.

We raise our hands to you, our hearts and our prayers. We look to you. We await your response. You are good, and all that you do is good, and we praise you. We glorify you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jesus.
