Eric is getting a bit better. He was extubated and removed from the ventilator two days ago. He still has a bit of a cough, but is managing very well and breathing normally again. He's still not allowed to take any food or liquid by mouth until they do a swallow study on him monday. After the swallow study he'll be able to resume a soft diet and liquids. Until then were feeding him through his J-tube. They're moving him to a step down unit because he's recovering so well. I think he'll be in the hospital for another week or so to get his medications and nutrition needs adjusted.
