Start of a new journey
Happy Super Sunday!
The new year started off with a bang! for Walker. He and Candy met with the Advent Health transplant team in early January to begin the process of evaluating his situation with a very critical eye towards how his transplants will be carried out. It’s not a matter of if, but of when and how, to what degree. They scheduled 19 test for him over a 20 day period, every test you could imagine including snorting radioactive dust before a scan. Thus is the new life that Walker has been given. A very different life.
“Why me?” asks Walker frequently. A life long question in his case. A hard question to answer, only time and God can fill in that blank. For now, its just enough to get through each day which for Walker is a delicate balance between being able to breathe well enough for the task at hand and recovering from a digestive system that has a mind of its own, often a negative mindset.
Candy writes, “I wanted to update all about Walker. He is now being considered “pre-transplant”. This means lots and lots of testing, this will take a few months to get the full picture of what needs to be transplanted or fixed ie lungs, kidney and make sure the heart can handle all of this. While he does this I am asking all for your help in casting a large net of support. We will be working with the National Foundation for Transplants pulling together a profile and having Walker’a story listed. Honestly, we have not gotten back on our feet from his initial illness and we need help. This foundation is asking for a campaign chair along with volunteers who would be willing to spread our story asking for financial support. This is where you can help. Please consider joining Team Walker. Please reach out to me or anyone in my family. We would be ever so grateful for your help as this is another chapter in this Walkers journey.
So far I have a campaign chairman, a campaign treasurer,
And 10 volunteers. We will be posting a link to Team Walker on our various social media accounts once the Foundation has established his account.”
The next meeting with Advent Health’s transplant team will be the 17th of February and then we will have a much clearer picture of what this journey will entail. From Walkers point of view, it’s another foray into a complicated hospitalization that as he says will be his second time experiencing very scary, terrifying physical trauma which is so hard. Most of us will never know something like this except maybe at the end of our lives and maybe not even then. We all can do our part to carry him through these difficult times by continuing to prayer and petition on his behalf. One day soon, by the Grace of God, we will see Walker restored through the miracle of modern medicine to a body that functions closer to normal allowing him to engage and enjoy a full life. How exciting that will be.
His family is hanging tough through it all doing our very best to take care of him while managing to carry on with our own lives. His Grandma turned 80 this weekend and we had a chance to celebrate her and several of her childhood buddies, work for Candy at ORMC is going well, Laura is thriving in her Junior yr at Geneva, and Dad is diligently seeking his first job in Cyber Security. And the beat goes on...
On a side note, I finished my first novel which chronicles my first marriage and the extraordinary way that it ended. If you would like to read it drop me an email and I’ll gladly send it to you - [email protected]
all the best, in Christ name,
Dave

I know I am partial- but I have walked every step of this journey! This is an amazing young man - as is his totally dedicated family - it is all beyond imagination! I see everyday his will and his continual fight to live - through all he has endured - and all he still has in front of him to go through - he "keeps on keeping on" fighting - and this is NOT easy! He is an inspiration to me every day - when I complain about any little - or big issue in "my" life I feel so ashamed of myself!!! Walker has an amazing extended family - friends known and unknown all across the country - praying for him daily - yes financial aid is needed but nothing is more important than these prayers - so like Walker - please "keep on keeping on with those prayers"!!! God must have a purpose for Walker - and his story or there is no way he could still possibly be alive --- I AM BLESSED TO KNOW AND LOVE HIM -
