Sports to the rescue

From Nikki and George:

On Thursday night, August 28th, George and I spent the evening with dad at the hospital watching football.  As Bob became more alert, George decided that he must be REALLY bored, which is a fair assessment.  The ICU is filled with beeping, alarms, respirator sounds, etc., and imagine being in bed, not being able to communicate, move or get away from these.  We talked to the nurse who gave approval to our TV plan.

He was able to communicate, via blinking and moving his feet, that he was, in fact happy to have the TV on, and the volume level was good for him.  This was important, because we're pretty sure he doesn't have his contacts in - so unable to see the TV - and the volume is kind of piped into the bed, right by his ears.  He seemed to like listening to the Seahawks game and was opening his eyes to try to see the TV.

He remained alert for a good portion of the game - we left in the 3rd quarter with instructions to the night nurse to turn off the TV after the game was over.

Well, Bob, prepare yourself for a great game on Sept. 4 between the Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers! Remember where your loyalty was some years ago! Seriously, I am wishing you a speedy recovery. Hoping going home will be in your near future. Thanks, Nikki and Jeff for setting up this site. It is definitely helpful to those of us who live so far away. Love you all, Mary Keane
