Our last week in Oxford

With only one week until we leave Oxford I am compiling a list of things I will miss and things I, well, won't miss.

I will miss.....the newcomers club and all my amazing friends who come from all corners of the world.  I am so grateful to all of them for helping me get through this year!  I will miss you.

I will miss...people asking me how my vacation is going, where am I from, and telling me what a lovely accent I have.

I will miss...gargoyles, grotesques, amazing architecture, sub fusc and the melodic "method ringing" of college bells.

I will miss...pub quizzes, punting, Shakespeare in the Park, and concert/lecture/play every night of the week

I will miss the Thames, Cherwell, canals, tow-paths, public right of way, and walking everywhere

I will miss Universal Health Care, Maggies, Jericho Health Clinic and Churchill Hospital, all with no paperwork!!

I will  miss...University parks, border beds spilling over with flowers, picking berries, and cygnets and narrow boats right outside our window.

I won't miss...separate hot and cold taps, clothes washer/dryer combo, narrow roads, and tiny sidewalks

I won't miss...having to pay our phone bill in cash every month!   Or mobs of tourists downtown

I won't miss...warm English beer or the lack of Mexican food.  (Bring on the corner taco truck)

I won't miss the short, gray days of winter.   And spring...... and fall.

I won't miss those nasty stinging nettles that grow everywhere.

xoxo, MK

After only 10 summer days in Oxford and thanks to your wonderful tour guiding, I am missing almost all the things you'll be missing. And after such a short stay, only the warm beer left much to be desired. The other annoyances were just part of the "charm". (Except some of those hedgerow to hedgerow experiences on the Cornwall lanes. ) Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! Sally

Hi Michelle, we had missed a few of your blogs so have just been through them to catch up. You almost have enough material now for two books. The first on British Travel and the second a Self Help book for others going through trauma. Your positive attitude is truly inspirational to others. We can still see that lovely smile we got to know when we were in Oxford last year. We certainly miss Oxford – it’s one of the most beautiful cities on the planet and we have many memories of our cocktail evenings and Sunday dinner at the pub with our lovely American friends. We are heading off on our next adventure next week to Peru, Bolivia, Mexico and Cuba. It won’t be the relaxing holiday we had during our seven weeks in Oxford but we are looking forward to going on an adventure. We have been to Peru before (in 2000) but we missed the Nazca Lines. During that visit we were also supposed to visit Bolivia but they were having a bit of a blue at the time so we are ‘calling into’ Peru and Bolivia on the way to our main trip to Mexico and Cuba. We enjoy reading your blogs and are thinking of you often. You may be back in the US now – keep up the positive thoughts and remember (as one of your other friends said) you’re not alone, we are all with you. Cheers Wendy and Barry from Newcastle, Oz xxx
