This rendition of "First Day in Heaven" was shared with me this morning by my dear friend and former colleague Colleen Rapson. Truly fitting as we returned Cindy to the ground yesterday. Close family held hands in a circle around the mound of dirt covering her remains. We prayed, sang a verse of "This Little Light of Mine" and closed reciting the Lord's Prayer together. Afterwards, we went out for breakfast and to begin to figure out how to resume life here without Cindy. But we have each other and the Lord to bind us together and carry us all home.[...]
There's no good way to say this so I am grieved to report that our beloved Cindy died this morning at 10:13 a.m. at Beaumont Hospital. It's a long story about what happened in a few, short hours since we arrived at ER at midnight. Suffice to say she was doing splendidly until Sunday afternoon then a series of symptoms set in, leading us to head to the hospital.[...]
Cindy's really struggling right now. We came to Beaumont ER at midnight with severe bone pain in legs. After receiving pain meds, she began having difficulty breathing. She was just put on a ventilator and is headed to ICU. They are tracking a couple other issues as well.[...]
Cindy’s first check-up on April 1 since returning home from her first week of consolidation chemo indicated her blood counts were down. Low counts are not so good for you and me but for Cindy, ‘eez good!’[...]
Cindy’s return home after her first week of consolidation chemotherapy means we get to be together again, proximate, just like we’ve been for over forty years. Just being together is so, so good. It’s the little things….[...]
Nearing the end of week 1 of consolidation, Cindy is feeling well and her final chemo infusion has been moved up five hours to begin at 10 a,m. today (3/29) so the second half of this round will begin at 10 p.m. tonight. This means, if her Saturday morning blood work is good, she will be discharged to home tomorrow - March 30.[...]
Cindy’s consolidation chemotherapy this week involves receiving “high dose” cytarabine, also known as AraC.
What does high dose mean? Good question.[...]
After a glorious month at home recuperating from induction therapy, Cindy is back at the hospital today for her first week of consolidation chemotherapy with one to three additional such weeks to look forward to.[...]
