Happy New Year!

Well the end of 2015 was sure a surprise, but that makes us none the less thankful for the year we had. We are looking forward to 2016. I guess it is coming whether we look forward to it or not. There most certainly will be challenges, struggles, (insert whatever word your thesaurus comes up with here), but there will still be amazing memories made and good times had together as a family. We do not travel this path alone. We have had amazing support thus far by so many amazing people. Thank you all. But all the more we could not have made it this far or heading into the unknown without our faith.
Today was a nice easy radiation(never thought I would say that 2 months ago). We were met there by a dear friend's husband who brought letters of encouragement from a great class of kids about Derek's age, that Derek took the time to read through every one. And that takes longer as his reading is significantly slowed. He also had AMAZING gluten free Krumkake made by his mom. Thanks to his wife, a dear friend from grade school, for sharing!!
The big smile on Derek's face is immediately after he found out he could have a whole apple tonight. He is on a very strict diet and he has not had a whole apple in quite some time. Thankfully he is a very logical boy and understands the difference between brain food and tumor food. That is not saying it is easy for him all of the time, however he never complains about it. But there's no way we are putting him through radiation to try and kill the cancer cells to just turn around and feed them! Seems so counterintuitive.
We wish everyone a safe, HEALTHY, and happy New Year.
