Derek's been Sleepy

Derek has been pretty sleepy the last few weeks.  Since about June 21st he has slept nearly 20+ hours of the day. Before that I was encouraging him to take naps mid day.  We went in on Friday June 24th and Derek had another 12 ml of fluid removed.  I think the pressure was getting high again. But this time his symptoms were different.  It seems every time he has pressure built up the symptoms are slightly different.   He seemed to have perked up after the fluid was removed.

On Monday June 20th, Derek had another MRI of his brain.  It looks like the original tumor seems to be gone or has reduced so much that it is not detected on the scan any more.  The cyst is still there so he still has that pocket of fluid where the right thalamus should be.

However, there appears to be new tumor growth in new places where it was not before.  Now there appears to be growth on his left thalamus, corpus callosum, cerebellum, and left temporal horn.  In general it seems to be all over.  On Friday he had a MRI of his spine to see if there is any spreading.  We should find out the results on Saturday.

He has recently started to walk wobbly or with less balance and that seems to be consistent with what should be going wrong with one of the areas where the new tumor is forming. We are going to talk with the oncologist on Tuesday about what our options will be.  I have a feeling she will be open to whatever it might take.

So at this point, it is looking like Derek might be done with the vaccine trial.

That's all for now Folks

Zell

So sorry Angela! I don't often comment, because selfishly my heart rips open when I think of what you're going through. And it takes me to a very hard place. But that isn't fair to you! So today I want you too know that you are in my heart and prayers. Often!! The truly awful in this world can be so isolating. I pray that you feel love and peace as you navigate how to parent both your children through this uncertainty. May God be with you every step of the way..

Words cannot express how deeply we care for all of you. Words cannot help this go away, but we hope the words of your many supporters help to ease the disappointment, lighten the load and lift our voices with you to our Lord - who, alone, can bring comfort and hope.

Our hearts go out to your entire family. Your news seems to indicate that our heartfelt prayers are not being answered in the way we would like them to have been. What brings us comfort is knowing that your Faith is strong, as ours is, too. We continue to pray for Derek, his family, and his caregivers. Deuteronomy 31:6 “ …Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread ... , for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
