First day post-op
Yesterday was a long day that began at our house a little after 4am, check in at 5am, surgery at 7:30am. We're now about 24 hours post-op and Eden is doing very, very well. The tough stuff is the pain and nausea, but the staff have been helping her all day, all night, and she looks 1000% better to me this morning. The pain medication is rough on the tummy, so it's a balancing act between making her head feel comfortable and making her tummy feel comfortable. When it's in balance, she is peacefully resting, talking quietly, and happy to have a little quiet company.
Last night, Eden had a post-op MRI - the purpose is to see how the surgeon did. I wish there was a way to see all that before they put all the pieces back together, but I suppose there are limits to our incredible modern medicine. The initial read of the MRI is positive. Still, this bit of data long with the pathology report next week, will provide the data and map that the medical team needs to decide what comes next.
Eden's sister Hillary stayed with Eden last night in the ICU and I went home to have a sleepover with Julia. Hillary helped Eden all night long. Eden had some food this morning and now is sitting in a chair. The Occupational Therapist came by and her assessment is really positive. Eden slowly got out of bed using her own power and sat down in the chair. She's now resting comfortably and we're just taking the day slowly.
Eden will be released from the ICU today and depending on availability in the hospital, will either be moved to another floor or will remain in her room with way less tubes, machines, poking, and prodding. That should enable her to rest and recover even further.
Finally, the tight cranium cap they put on after surgery - which was putting a lot of pressure on her head and making her uncomfortable (though was an important part of reducing inflammation) is now off. She has a little white knit cap on. So, she looks less like an adorable Yogi today and more like she's getting ready to go skiing in July.
I have been receiving so much love and outreach from so many of you and if you're wondering if it helps - IT DOES. BIG TIME. Once Eden's pain subsides further, and we get home (probably tomorrow), I know she would enjoy visits from friends. More info on that to come. In the meantime, please keep your support for Eden going strong. The optimistic, encouraging, and even funny posts are uplifting. We feel everyone's love so deeply. Thank you.
