Good news from Emma's ophthalmologist!

Emma had her ophthalmology appointment today, and we had good news! She doesn't have pressure from her brain, she doesn't have any tumours, and she doesn't have any ocular signs of neurofibromatosis! Great news!

Emma will have her eyes checked every six months for three reasons:

1. She has astigmatism in each eye. Currently these are each at  +0.75 -- I don't wear glasses, so as yet I don't really know what that means... cue Dr. Google!

2. Because of her cafe-au-lait marks, coupled with a family history, Emma is still considered at risk for neurofibormatosis (nf), and one way of diagnosing nf is to look for ocular tumours and spots on the retina.

3. Emma's chromosomal issues mean that she is susceptible to glaucoma, cataracts, and blindness.

I'm so glad that she received a good result today. She didn't enjoy it at all, especially when they had to dilate her pupils, but she is such a happy little girl, she hasn't let it spoil her mood for the rest of the day!
