Well, that didn't go well...
I went along for my MRA... and had two panic attacks in the MRI machine.
Ever wanted to do something with every fiber of your being, but your body stopped you? I haven't stopped crying yet. What a silly thing.
As it turns out, I'm claustrophobic. So now I will wait until next Friday, when I can have an appointment in the wide-bore MRI machine, and hope that the extra four inches of space will allow my brain to calm down enough to get this study done.
If you have any relaxation techniques I would absolutely love to hear them!
With love from an incredibly embarrassed Katy x

I have the same problem Katy. Do not ever have a PET scan, it's even worse. We can't help it though. Love you. I sang songs and prayed.
I had an MRI on my shoulder and they asked if I was claustrophobic. Nahhh I said. And I nearly ripped my own skin off getting out of the machine. Don't be embarrassed!
That has happened to me before. I listen to music and count the seconds to match the amount of minutes they tell me each scan will last. I try to keep my mind on the counting! It has worked for me since I had the panic attack.
I've had multiple MRIs and cannot even do the "open" one -- way too claustrophobic. They have to drug me to get it done. Don't feel bad about it, it's a long time to be in a coffin. Ask for a drug to relax you. This coming from a yoga instructor who had an IV-free 13 hour long child labor!! Lol. But some things just require drugs.
Oh no! Maybe they could hook you up with one of these in adult-size? http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/07/15/331756668/whats-going-on-in-there-how-babies-brains-practice-speech?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20140715
Yes! Kristen, that's perfect!!! :)
I am really claustrophobic too. When I did the open MRI, they put a washcloth over my eyes and let me listen to my IPod. I didn't have any issues doing it that way. Don't feel embarrassed by what happened. It's happened to so many of us and I think the techs are very used to it!
