Status Quo

For the last two days, things have really been status quo.  Monday he went to the doctor and had a pretty good day.  They told us that he would definitely have good days followed by not so good days.  Tuesday was a not so good day with lots of nausea and other side effects.  Wednesday (today) has been a pretty good day.  We'll see if this pattern holds true for tomorrow, so we anticipate tomorrow won't be a great day.   The basic rule of thumb is that when he feels better, he probably pushes himself which wears him out and makes him not have a great day the following day to recover from doing to much.  If you know Joe, this will absolutely hold true for him!  Last night he was talking about needing to get in the garage and start cleaning it out.  I think I have held him off until some Saturdays in October when I can go over to do that and he can help me.  By then, he'll also be at the 30 day mark when he should start to be feeling better pretty consistently.

Other than that, we're working on figuring out non-sugar laced snacks (including limited fruit) to keep his blood sugar under control for his diabetes.  When he was in the hospital, they were giving him fast acting insulin and they pretty much wanted him to eat whatever he wanted because they wanted him to eat.  But now that he's home, he doesn't have that fast acting insulin so it becomes more of a better food choice decision.  They encouraged him to eat several small meals a day or graze all day vs. 3 big meals (which he's been doing for 70+ years).

Next up, he goes to see his primary care doc next week for a general non-cancer related check-up.  The following week, he goes back to Siteman to meet with the specialist again.

Overall, he's doing well and much better than anticipated.  Thanks again for the ongoing prayers - they are working!!

God Bless.

Aunt Bea is right-------leave the garage alone for now, it will be there when you feel a little better. If you need to get out of the house, just take a little walk instead and enjoy the life around you. Feel better, love sis
