Resting Peacefully...

Wednesday night was a tough night- Korbin had some pain and we had a hard time managing it effectively at home, so Thursday evening we discussed it and decided that it would be a good idea to admit Korbin to Agrace. When we first admitted him for pain control to Meriter he made it very clear that he did not want to die in the hospital.  When we went to Agrace after that we were both so impressed with the facility, and especially the amazing nurses and doctors that he told me that if he had to go back there at the end, he was okay with that. I'm so glad that we did, because they were amazing with Korbin, and made his last days so much more comfortable that I could have at home.

While we were there, so many people helped us out, and offered to help us out. Not a day went by where we didn't receive a kind, supportive message, text or phone call. We have amazing family and friends around us and we felt so loved.

Korbin was a little restless Saturday night, and his breathing changed quite a bit. Thanks to wonderful care we were able to keep him comfortable, and Korbin passed away peacefully at 7:45 on Sunday morning.

We've spent the day surrounded by friends and family.  Thank you all for the kind messages and support.  We miss Korbin very, very much, but we're glad he's no longer in pain. The kids and I are happy to be home together tonight.

Thank you all for the prayers, help and support.  The messages and love coming our way mean so much to all 3 of us, even when we aren't able to respond. I'll post information about the funeral once the details are worked out.

I always wanted to reach out more and get in touch more during all of this but I always felt like maybe it was intrusive somehow since I hadn't really been a part of Korbin's life in so long other than the rare chance encounter. I may regret that but I'm truly happy that you had so many people in your support network with so much love to give. This is so heartbreaking and I'm so sorry that Korbin and your family all had to ever go through any of it. He was always one of the most kind and lovely people I'd ever known. It seems that there is always that one person that most people seem to know from school or life that was just amazing to everyone no matter who they were. For me, Korbin certainly fit that description when I knew him better, and so it made him unique and wonderful. Our thoughts are with you and your family. And although you may hardly know who I am, I knew Korbin once and saw him from time to time and if anything, my opinion of him was only made better after every chance encounter. If you ever need anything that a computer geek might be able to offer, there are many ways to reach me and I'm at your disposal any time. Love and best wishes to you and your family, Mickey

Mickey's comments made me cry because Korby was the guy that everyone seem to know and love in school. He truly was such a caring person that we all wish we could be. People like him are one in a million...truly blessed to have known this man!

Di, On behalf of our family and all of us here at FCI our deepest sympathy, prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family. Korbin will be so greatly missed, but his memory, humor and creativity will carry on with all of us forever. We all have such heavy hearts around here today. I stopped by Korbin's office to let him know I was thinking about him and somehow felt his presence. We will be closing FCI for a half day this week to pay respect to Korbin and all of his wonderful contributions. We are also setting up an EdVest - Berg Kids College Fund here at FCI to provide some assistance down the road. Please let us know if there is anything you need during this time of transition. God Bless Korbin and your family.

My condolences to you and your family, I didn't know Korbin well, but he was uniquely genuine to all he encounter, a kindred soul, and felt light through anyone, he was the first person I met when moving to Mount Horeb, while he escorted me around the school showing me where I needed to be, without ever making me feel as if I didn't belong. Prayers to you all.

Teachers often have children who help shape them. Korby was one of those children for me. He just WAS; he smiled, and listened, and shared and wondered and smiled. He just WAS. He was kind and patient, funny and smart and humble. He loved his family at home and his family at CCS. His presence was noticeable and also reserved. I loved being his teacher. He taught me well.

There is a whole town with incredibly heavy hearts. I think whether you knew Korbin a whole lot, or just a little, the general consensus is that he was and always will be an incredible person. So kind and positive, a great example for not only his children, but anyone he came into contact with. It's evident that Korbin left the world a more beautiful place, not only with his photography. Thinking of your family during this extremely difficult time. Lots of love and light. ~Myssi Haglund

My heart goes out to you, and takes comfort in your being surrounded by such loving, supportive friends and family. I was deeply moved by your posts, and as someone who has experienced "the waiting game" with other loved ones, I can only admire your fortitude and compassion through it all, and Korb's own love and courage and wisdom in dealing with it. He will always be a shining example for me in facing such a difficulty with grace. As a far-flung cousin, all I can offer is this song by Cyntia Smith, called "Partings." For it is this courage, compassion, wisdom, and especially his love that are Korbin's gift to us all, to share out in our daily lives. Blessings from the middle of the world. Here's the song: PARTINGS - Cyntia Smith (on “The Heart is the Only Nation”, w/fretted dulcimer, fiddle & cello) Em D C G Spring will come with memories fond D EM D of day’s bright sun and love’s strong bond. EM C G D Flowers fade as time moves fast G EM D EM and life like flowers cannot last. G C D CHORUS Still I never thought you’d go, Em D C Em somehow because I loved you so. G C D Em but just like you I will be brave C G D Em and carry on the love you gave. C G D Em I’ll carry on the love you gave. Em D C G And Autumn brings a golden light D EM D and on the wind the leaves take flight. EM C G D And like the leaf must come to rest, G EM D EM a soul leaves a loved one’s caress. CHORUS Still I never thought you’d go, Em D C Em somehow because I loved you so. G C D Em but just like you I will be brave C G D Em and carry on the love you gave. C G D Em I’ll carry on the love you gave. Em D Em D Em D Spring will come... Spring will come... Spring will come...
