Round 2, Day 9

Science and medicine are amazing, am I right? This week is just trucking right along, without the excitement that we had in week 2 of round 1. It seems the stars all aligned for us this time. I was feeling certain that this time would be better, but Mike wasn't as easy to convince. It turns out, I was right. I can't pinpoint exactly what it was that has made the difference since so many variables are different this round. For one, we are home and that has been a huge factor. For my second argument, they started Mike on Claritin before he finished his chemo so that seemed to fend off the congestion and cough he had last time. Another factor was that they weaned him off of the Prednisone. Whatever it was, it seemed to have worked.

Monday we went to the cancer center and they gave him the Neulasta shot. He was a nervous wreck. Luckily, the rest of the day was pretty easy for him, except he was worried through the night about when all hell would break loose for him. Tuesday he woke up and said his bones hurt so bad. He said it was a pretty weird feeling. It was because the Neulasta causes his cells in his bone marrow to increase and multiply so rapidly it literally feels like his bones are expanding. Even through this pain, which as remained for 2 days now, he claims it is better than all of the symptoms he had last time. For that, we are so thankful! He rode with me to take the girls to school this morning. He was so happy to just be out of the house. He even ran an errand with one of his friends. Sunshine and fresh air can really work wonders on a person.

This week has given me hope. I believe and trust in his doctors that they are making the right decisions for him. They listened to him, and to his concerns, made adjustments to help manage his side effects, and it has been paying off. It doesn't get much better than that. 3 months from now I'm hoping we'll be having a cancer free party!

XOXO,

Robin
