Tue, 2/17/15 Good Day

Thank you to you all for your amazing words of kindness and encouragement and especially your prayers. They truly help.

Today was good. Felt a little nausea at 3am, but just drank more (water!) and tried to sleep. Felt great in the morning. Took a prescribed steroid drug—supposed to help the chemo to work better. If I start growing a beard, I’m stopping! Of course, the steroid messes with my insulin but everything messes with my insulin so that’s not new.

Felt good enough to get lots of paperwork done. Really it’s computer work, but if there are papers and a To Do list, it’s paperwork! Plus, I even went and ran errands. Freedom! However, I guess I must have to sip water continuously to avoid the nausea because I didn’t feel the best when I returned. Lots of water helped. I’m up to 17 cups of just water, not counting the other things I drink. It really does help flush everything out and keep the cancer from affecting the normal cells. So I drink water! Lukewarm water. Lovely stuff.

Finally took an hour “nap” at 5pm. It was nice. Will try to plan more in for tomorrow. Plus exercise. They really want me to keep active. I’ve already done nothing for 2 months when I thought I was just having a really bad flu year. I really want to get back into it. Of course, exercise means burning calories, which is not good. I have to keep track to make sure I can maintain my weight. I’m not underweight by any means, thankfully. It’s just hard to want to eat. Never thought I’d have those words pass over my lips. So I try to eat small, nutrient-dense foods.

Our family is trying to get back into our new normal. They’ve been great. It’s been very peaceful, except when the kitchen is messy. Then I’m back to my scary “normal” self.

There’s a scripture I want to share that’s helped me in past trials:

I Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, restore, establish, strengthen, settle you.

The words “a while” are tough ones. An unknown. But the restore, establish, strengthen and settle part is amazing. Looking forward to experiencing it again.
