Keep Active.

That’s what they told me to do. “You’ll feel better blah, blah, blah. The chemo will work better…blah, blah, blah.”

We hear what we want to hear. I heard, “Now that you have an official diagnosis and a treatment plan, you will feel all better and everything will be back to as it was, minus a few miles of walking because we don’t want you to burn too many calories.”

Reality. That’s what’s Scott’s for: to reinterpret my misinterpretations.

 Here’s my “Keep Active”:

Get. Out. Of. Bed.  No, really. Get out of bed! Ok, you’re moving. Keep moving. Yay, you made it downstairs. Now go lie on the couch. Whew! Activity!

Yep, today was pretty much the same start. BUT… it got better. I got up (success!) Started breakfast and lunch. Went and crashed on the couch. Had the kids finish their breakfast and lunch. Sigh.

Got up again…eventually. Put in a load of laundry. Yay! Went and rested on a different couch.

Slowly, though, my energy increased and the day blossomed into an amazing day of “activity.” Did a few more loads, cleaned the bathroom. (Finally! Gross!)

Then I decided I’d better rest. But just for 15 min. Well, maybe another 15 min. BAM! 2 hours gone! What?!?

But, it got better. I was able to vacuum and clean the main level.  Yay! Of course, I had to stop and rest. But I was “active.”

This is very encouraging. After the last few days, I thought I was just going to spend the rest of my life in bed. But now I’m “active”. So, it was a GREAT day! Thank you for your part in that. The prayers and encouragement are working wonders!

Have a blessed Sabbath and a wonderful weekend with your amazing friends and family.

Oh yeah…and Keep Active!

Sarah.. WOW. Thanks for sharing what it's like to be on the chemo. Val did not (thankfully!) need to go through that with her kidney cancer. Your sharing what you're going through helps us to be able to make our prayers on your behalf more specific and (I hope and suspect) more effective. We love you! Keep up the good fight! You are an inspiration! Enjoy the Sabbath!

Keep Active! What great advice and challenge for all of us. It sounds like you were very active today - good job! Now you can rest and enjoy God's wonderful Sabbath. Sarah you are one strong and courageous woman. What a beautiful example you are to us. I love you dearly and want you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and heartfelt prayers daily. Thank you for being you and sharing this journey with us. Happy Sabbath! Much love and prayers, Val :)

Sarah, we were stunned to hear of your diagnosis. Our prayers are with you. Not much practical help, I know, but maybe that will come from other quarters. Good to know you're "active." :-) We hope you'll get through each day a little stronger, and that God will help you and the whole family through this trial. All the best from us. Hello my friend. Got the news from sissy this week. Sorry. Keep fighting though. And I know you will. Every step, no matter how big or small, is a step. The medicine and technology for treatment are leaps better than in years past. The attitude is the difference maker. My wife is a survivor and I believe much of it was due to her willingness to keep pushing forward and fight. I'm in your corner and will be praying. God can always do wonders, keep your faith above all in him. TT

Happy Sabbath! You were way more productive than some of the occupants in our house today! Funny how if there is snow on the ground everything comes to a standstill here in KY! I love your posts. Thank you for sharing your daily struggles and routines. We are praying for you daily. Love you!

Hi Sarah, OK, now I'm feeling lazy. :-) LOVE your sense of humor!! Thanks so much for including us in your journey. Not only is this a wonderful way to help our prayers to be more specific, and to help us feel closer when we can't be there physically; but what a wonderful way to document each step along the way. I can't say enough about how much John's CaringBridge site helped all of us throughout the past 4 years since his diagnosis -- especially through some of the most difficult periods. We look back at the entries & encouragement often now -- both as a frame of reference/timeline of events, and as reminders of how God was ALWAYS there to help us through the toughest stretches! Sometimes I'll read an entry and think: "How in the world did we get through that;" and, of course, the answer is obvious and SO encouraging; and simply proves time & again God's love and His promises!! Sending Love & Hugs from all the Kovalchicks to you and Scott, & your beautiful girls. We'll be checking in here often!

Hi Sarah. I get cold easily too - on one side. I used to wear a leg warmer on my right arm (courtesy of Deb Hellwege). You are considerably more fashionable than me. I am so sorry you are going through this. Your trial is not like my trial, so I can't offer much advice. You picked a better scripture than me, I kept thinking about "count it all joy when you encounter various trials", not there yet. You do have a wonderful family to help you and an army of people praying for you.

Hi Sarah...so sorry I have not said HI on here...so HI!! Hope you are having a better day in every way, now Sunday about 6:40pm. Raining hard here in Keller, TX (close to DFW) and close to 32F. Boys are praying for a 'snow day' tomorrow, so they won't have to go to school. Suppose to have icy roads, etc. I am sure it is much colder in Minnesota. You are so SPECIAL to us, to everyone. Please always remember that, even though we don't say it enough. You have our prayers. We love you so much. Hugs, and hugs, and more hugs!!
