Hello
Eric has shown significant improvement over the last week. He's able to take clear liquids now but is still supplemented with feeding through his J-tube. Expect this to go on for a few months until he can receive all his nutrition by mouth. He's taking several walks a day and his strength is returning quickly. All of the signs and symptoms of pneumonia he experienced 3 weeks ago have resolved. He had his pleural tube removed today and all looks good. I expect him to be released from the hospital sometime near the end of the week. Then he'll head to a Denver hotel for a few days then back home to Aspen for more recovery. Take care....tom[...]
Eric is getting a bit better. He was extubated and removed from the ventilator two days ago. He still has a bit of a cough, but is managing very well and breathing normally again. He's still not allowed to take any food or liquid by mouth until they do a swallow study on him monday. After the swallow study he'll be able to resume a soft diet and liquids. Until then were feeding him through his J-tube. They're moving him to a step down unit because he's recovering so well. I think he'll be in the hospital for another week or so to get his medications and nutrition needs adjusted.[...]
Hello all,
Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. It's been a bit busy here. Eris was readmitted to the hospital in denver on the 3d of july with some post-op complications. He developed a aspiration pneumonia and pleural effusions. He's resting comfortably in the ICU. His vital signs are good and he still remains strong. He'll likely be in the hospital for a few more weeks till we get things fine tuned and get him back on his road to recovery. I'll try to post again much sooner and thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. .........tom[...]
Eric was discharged from the hospital saturday. He's going to stay in a hotel for about a week for follow-up appointments with the surgeons. He's glad to move onto the next stage of recovery as well as showers and a full nights rest without someone taking vital signs every hour. He walks a couple of times a day now and his food intake is improving. Still a little ways away from Whopper and fries....Tom.[...]
