Just because a couple people wanted to know how the “dangles” went, I thought I’d post.
They went well. We did three throughout the day for five minutes each. The first was at 6:30 AM! My foot feels heavy and prickly and the implant hurts a bit and feels pressured, but the Doppler stayed strong.
My visitors in person today were Mom and her dear friend Lynn. We had a great chat. They ate at the Pine Barn and then brought some delicious tomato bisque to me. Lynn brought a beautiful teal blanket, a bag of great snacks, and someone from Mom’s church sent an adorable little Jesus. [...]
I’ve been so busy being uplifted with both physical and virtual visits — virtual trips on kayaks, a motor boat, two paint classes, a BeeTopia honey festival in North Carolina, two church services…[...]
It's been a busy day!
I cannot say enough about the diligence of the nurses and other staff members here in Danville. And I really have to say that I think a component of this level of care is that many of them are strong in their faith and that their compassion is genuine. One nurse in the ICU works with a ministry to rescue women and children from being trafficked -- when she is not working her twelve-hour shifts. A college-aged nurse here in my new ward asked me what my favorite scriptures are, and then told me her life verses. I already feel a bond with several nurses and other staff members here on the 8th floor of the Bush Pavilion. [...]
The plastics team came over and tightened my incision with clamps. And left them there!!! You can see the scissor-like objects dangling from my wound.
Every day they will tighten the sutures until the wound is closed. It’s sorta the way braces work but with skin. 🤪😂
My very nice nurse packed up my tricycle and loaded down my wheelchair. The new nurses helped me organize my belongings. [...]
I’m doing well but I was running a fever last night, which meant multiple rounds of bloodwork. The fever is going down and I don’t feel sick…[...]
Surgery tomorrow morning!

It’s amazing what one can accomplish with a walker, a book bag, a counter to slide things along, and modern alliances. Enjoying a coffee and a birria taco.
This is giving me just a glimpse of the obstacles so many face doing simple tasks that I’ve always taken for granted. [...]
My sister-in-law, Donna, was here to make sure everything was going well with the wound vac. It's great having a nurse in the family. She told me that if the alarm goes off, she'll come up and change the canister, even if it's in the middle of the night. Such a relief! [...]
