November 27 (10:30 am ET) Update

Hi Everyone -

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Dad a fairly rough night.  His vitals are back to normal but it looks like we are back to step one re: being on the ventilator and being fully sedated.  The doctors are still trying to figure out why he was able to come off the ventilator for almost 5-hours two days ago and not yesterday.  This means best case scenario that he will be on the ventilator at least another 5- to 6-days.  At this point, its just a waiting game.  Thanks for your continued thoughts.[...]

Thanksgiving (4:00 pm ET) Update

Hi Everyone -

Bad news.  They tried weaning Dad off the ventilator about an hour ago and his vitals all crashed.  His blood pressure went down to ~60/30.  They have got him back on the ventilator and are working to stabilize him again now.  Looks like this is going to be more drawn out than what was originally thought.  Please keep sending good energy his way.  He is a fighter and this isn't a huge set back.  It's just a little disappointing... I was hoping they would call with all positive news.  Will update everyone tonight.  Happy Thanksgiving. Make sure you tell your parents you love them tonight![...]

November 25 (2:30 pm ET) Update

Hi Everyone -

The hospital was a little understaffed this morning... I was finally just able to get through to Dad's nurse.  They put him on a CPAP this morning around 8:00 am CT until about 1:00 pm ET... that means he was breathing on his own for a few hours (a really good sign).  He got tired and went back to the full ventilator about 30 minutes ago.  All of these are good signs of improvement.  His blood pressure is back up (141/66) and vitals still look good.  Overall, I'm super happy with the progress he is making.[...]

November 24th (9:00 AM ET) Update

Hi All -

Dad is still improving!  Ventilator has now come down to 40%.  This gives me hope that they might take him off the ventilator sometime on Thanksgiving.  His vitals are still good.  Hoping he comes off the ventilator and that I'll be able to say hi via Zoom this weekend.  Thanks for your continued thoughts and good energy.  Things are starting to look uphill.  Will update you again this evening!  Lots of love.[...]

November 23 (10:00 AM ET) Update

Hi Everyone -

I just chatted with the nurse.  Nothing has changed since last night.  Vitals are still good and Dad is still on the ventilator.  Thanks for your continued thoughts!  I'm hoping he may be able to be taken off the ventilator towards the end of this week.  Fingers crossed![...]

November 22 (10:15 pm ET) Update

Hi All -

Dad is still stable.  Not much change, which is typical of COVID patients on ventilators for the first few days.  His blood pressure is still borderline low (98/58) and none of his vitals have changed today (good news).  They did move the ventilator down to 55% and his blood oxygen is at 95% (all good signs).  It is typical for COVID patients in the ICU to remain stable for a few days before starting to improve.  That's good news... I'm much more confident that he is going to pull through this next week.  Thanks for your continued thoughts... it seems like the raincloud is starting to subside![...]

November 22 (8:15 AM ET) Update

Dad had a good night in the ICU last night.  Vitals still looking good.  There wasn't really any improvement... but he hasn't gotten worse either.  So I'm taking that as positive news!  Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers!  I will update everyone again this afternoon/early evening![...]

November 21 - 6:00 pm ET Update

Hi Everyone -

I just spoke with the head nurse.  Dad is still stable.  They were able to move the ventilator oxygen down from 100% to 80% and anticipate dropping it down to 70% within the next 30 minutes (great news; means his lungs are doing well).  His blood pressure is still a little low (currently 99/58) but his mid arterial pressure is good (between 65 - 75), which means his kidneys and brain are doing really well (mid arterial pressure is more important in this scenario).[...]
