Dad’s Arrangements

Thanks for all of the wonderful and kind messages of love this past week! In lieu of 💐🌹🌸, I'm asking that people donate to either Hopkinsville Rotary Club to support local scholarships 🧑‍🎓👩‍🎓 or the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to support our ongoing study of how nutrition can impact COVID-19 patients 😷 in the ICU (how crazy that my Dad passes this way 😢). We will be having a big celebration of Dad's life this summer/fall, when the vaccine is widespread. Lots of love and thanks so much for your support. Details below. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! Update on Dad’s Arrangements!

Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for all of the beautiful comments and messages this past week! I’m so humbled to have such wonderful people in my life! I want you all to know that I’m okay (needed to be offline for a bit to absorb everything and be with my wonderful family). This has been a tough week but I’m at peace and my heart is full from all kindness and love. We will be setting up a scholarship memorial this week with the local Rotary Club. Those of you who remember Dad from his younger years will recall how the Rotary Club used to steal and auction off the eccentrically dressed stone goose that sat on the front porch of the house I grew up in, year-after-year, to raise money for local college scholarships... Dad loved that stuff and helping to advance education in the local community. Please do not send anything... I’ll have details on the scholarship donation by Tuesday evening. Dad already has 30+ plants, 4 freezers of comport food and ice cream, and enough dried flowers in this house of antiques that if anyone drops a cigarette in a 1-mile radius, the astronauts are going to see me from the space station! 😂 I am staying in Hoptown until just after Christmas (getting tested tomorrow). We have decided not to have a funeral... I just can’t imagine putting anyone else’s parent at-risk! We will be having one BIG 🍾🎉 celebration 🔥💥 of his life this summer (details to come) when this awful pandemic is over... just the way Dad would have wanted it! Thanks again for all your love and kind thoughts! ❤️❤️❤️ Lots of love! — Taylor[...]

A note to all who loved Dad...

Hi Everyone -

Thank you all so much for your prayers, messages and energy over the past two weeks.  Dad passed yesterday around 2:55 pm Central Time.  The moment I saw him... I knew discontinuing the ventilator was the right and humane thing to do for him.  I am really sad but very much at peace that he is no longer suffering.  I am making all of the arrangements today.  In the midst of not wanting this pandemic to affect anyone else's parents we (Brad, Fran and I) have decided to forego a funeral.  Dad's wishes were to be cremated and we plan on having a big celebration of his life this summer, once a vaccine is widespread and risk of contraction is much lower.  I will be working to set up a local scholarship fund in his name for anyone who wishes to donate (details forthcoming).  Please do not send plants or flowers.  If you've ever been to his house you know there's already PLENTY (its like the Jungle Book and an antique store collided in here lol).  Dad's life goal was education and I really want to honor that legacy in his name.  Thanks again for all of the love and support.[...]

December 2nd - Morning Update

Hi Everyone -

Thanks for the many beautiful comments and prayers.  I have compiled all of these and plan on reading them aloud to Dad.  I'm going up to the hospital at 1:00 pm CT to be there with him as they take him off the ventilator.  If you have any other messages of love or haven't posted just yet, please do so by noon CT, so I have time to print everything out before leaving for Jennie Stuart.  [...]

December 1st Update

Hi Everyone -

I am currently on my way back to Hopkinsville. The doctors I’ve recommended that I take that off the ventilator probably sometime tomorrow morning (not doing so would be cruel). Jennie Stuart is allowing me to be in the ICU room with Dad, due to my age and no pre-existing conditions.  I’m going to try to share all of the notes and messages everyone has sent the last few days... and I’ll hold his hand the whole time.  Thanks so much for your love and support the past two weeks. I will try my best to update everyone tomorrow evening.  I’m going to have to quarantine at his house after being with him… At least that’s what I’m assuming. One step at a time.[...]

November 30th (9:30 pm ET) Update

Hi Everyone -

It took me a minute to write to you all tonight (this is the most emotional I've been).  Dad's condition is much worse.  He has a C. diff infection that is causing him to have a continuous fever (its not responding well to the antibiotics)...  The doctors have also identified a bacteria called serratia that is causing issues in his lungs (on top of the damage COVID has done).  His ventilator is now almost at the highest setting and he has been fully sedated to keep his heart under control.  Please keep him in your prayers tonight.  The nurse is going to video me in via Zoom in the morning at 8:30 am ET (at my request; not a final goodbye).  I got the kennel to send a cute video of Cricket hoping that playing that may help his fight.  This is the part where it gets really hard not to be able to be there in person.  I will update everyone after seeing him over the iPad in the morning.[...]
