CT Scan Results, Maintenance Chemo Plans, and Return to Work
Hi Friends and Family, it's been a while since my last post, and there is much to update you all on!
Last Chemo: The last major chemo session on 12/18 went well, I took anti-nausea meds the night before and the morning of, and I was pretty much sleeping all day. It went by quickly, and was thankfully uneventful with similar side effects after.
CT Scan Results: I had a CT scan on 12/23 and met with the oncologist afterwards to discuss the results. The good news here is that the tumors on my lungs have not grown and have actually shrunk a bit. However, there is a spot on my liver where the surgery mark is that looks like it may have increased in size, but we'll monitor that and will review it again during my next CT scan which will take place in 2 months. The doctor also said that I continue to have a good response to the chemo and good progress, so the prognosis remains optimistic. Overall, it was a good result from the CT scan.
Maintenance Chemo: Yesterday, on 1/5, I began my new maintenance chemo regime. I met with the pharmacist for 45 minutes to discuss how to take the new chemo and the side effects. I will be having an hour infusion of Avastin every 3 weeks, and will take 3 Xeloda pills 2x daily. I've taken two doses now, and am generally feeling fine, but the pharmacist noted that the side effects are cumulative, so it may get worse as I get towards the end of the 2 week cycle. The primary side effects are hand-foot syndrome, nausea, and fatigue.
Return to Work: I plan to return to work sometime in January-February which will help resume the feeling of normal life. I'll talk to HR and my manager tomorrow to discuss my options and factor in the doctor's recommendations.
Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great New Year!
