July 25 (Wednesday) - noon
Jeannette is improving today, fighting the good fight and continuting to surprise her doctors. The enlargement of the right side of her heart has "improved" and seems to be "better." Her oxygen levels have gotten better than they were earlier too, and so there is some optimism. This ICU journey is one of ups and downs, highs and lows, and it is much easier to report the highs. Like a soilder, she surprises everyone with her tenacity. I am glad it is summer; the Alaskan summer sun gives us a long almost endless day, and that too seems to give hope.
Rich is sitting up, in a chair no less, and eating! Yeah....I guess those doctors decided to try out their intestinal repair job, and so Rich is chowing down on Earl Grey tea, grits, and "Ensure" for his first breakfast. Umm. Hope they got the plumbing right! This is of course wondeful news, and another milestone that must be hurdled to get him to the point where he can really get out of there. This is also the first thing he has eaten in quite some time, so they are going slow, and yet the fact he has an appitite is encouraging I think to everyone.
He's not at the point where he needs a pile of visitors, but as we move toward his recovery I'll be sure and let you know when that can happen. Right now, the ICU is not the place and this is not the time. On a sidenote, he was asking about his motorcylce, and then he confessed that it "might have been damanged." Um. Not sure what bike he is referring to, or when he had it. But I never knew he was a biker. Ah, the things we learn...
